i always got more of a deus ex vibe from it. arcanum is the most fallout-like troika game i think (another good suggestion for this thread btw).

I haven't played Deux Ex ( Embarrassed ) so that may be it, but I always got a strong "Fallout in 3D" vibe from Bloodlines. Not directly of course, but because of the general mood and little touches in dialogues, writing, themes, choices, sense of humor, and even music.

I got the game on a Steam sale a while ago (lost the original CD), and I was surprised how little it aged. Or maybe it's just nostalgia speaking? I dunno.

nah the game hasn't aged at all. even the npcs' facial expressions still look pretty good.

btw, before anyone asks: yes you CAN use the fan patches with the steam version.

my one sugestion: umihara kawase.

This is brilliant. I third this choice, it's the best I've heard. I've watched a TAS of the game on the shortest path, but never played it. I would totally play this.

heeeeeeeey, there's a subforum now. Thanks derek.

This is awesome.  Grin
Yes, it certainly makes this feel more "legit" and organized. Also, the fact that La-Mulana's the current chosen game means I can't avoid this.

if you're into deus ex you're gonna love bloodlines as well (with fan patches ofc). also the most goth game ever created.

btw: pathologic is something i have wanted to try for ages. it's not on any legal download service i can use, but i could get a used copy from amazon for under 1 euro(!)

gamersgate has it

I played pathologic some years ago. the game fov is annoying, but despite the bizarre translation, I enjoyed what i played. some glitch made me die the first time I took a nap tho.

Also, i would crave for a tigclub for bloolines too.

And regarding umihara kawase, you better play the snes version and not the playstation one.

The former. While the graphics are kinda rough in some places even at the time, everything else didn't aged at all.

To be honest, I couldn't get into Arcanum. I'm trying to remember why - I think the graphics had a lot to do with it. I found them very unappealing. The pacing is quite slow, too, IIRC.

On the other hand, I've played Fallout 1 and 2 pretty recently and still really like them.

heh yeah i didn't like arcanum all that much either but thats because i couldnt relate to the setting (not a big steampunk fan)

idk graphics are kind of a low priority for me (especially for this type of rpg) but i agree that fallout looks better.

speaking of which fallout 1 or 2 would be another good idea for this thread i think. or even wasteland. i didn't play wasteland until very recently but i found that, aside from the graphics and the need to read part of the story from a book, the game has aged incredibly well.

Fallout 1 is so great. Way better than any of its successors, IMO.

Arcanum is quite the rough jewel, it has a reaaally dull start, but once you finally leave Shrouded Hills and visit Tarant and Dernholm is when the really good things start. There are quite a few brilliant moments that are worth witnessing, in particular its own deconstruction/demystification. I'm no big fan of neither steampunk nor fantasy, yet I think everything was handled so well I tend to prefer it over the Fallout games. That's not to say I don't love the Fallout games.

Ah, yeah... so I am correctly remembering the beginning as being dull!

Anyway, when Bloodlines starts I'll definitely try to participate in that.

maybe instead of once every two weeks, it should be like, two games one a month? without a deadline, even, just start two new games on the first of every month. maybe one free / one commercial? plus, two weeks is not nearly enough time for la mulana. especially since i doubt people are playing it nonstop. it'd be better (imo) if people focused more on helping each other out and playing at their own paces, rather than having to worry about a set time limit for beating the game.

Yes, two weeks is definitely not enough for La-Mulana. It was pretty much the only thing I played for at least a month and that was with considerable amounts of outside help.

I would be down for Bloodlines as well. Been looking for an excuse to re-play it since ages. I too agree with Bobo that we should run more than one game per month. Easier to find something that fits your mood/timeframe.
