Well, I mean the actual temple most of the game takes place in, not the hell temple. Maybe I was mistaken and it's really easy to find?
So I assume this will be the next game? When does LoZ finish? I haven't even finished the second dungeon, and I kind of want to at least complete my overworld map Concerned

I set the date of LoZ finishing/new game starting April 1 when I first made the thread.  Anywhere from 1 week - 1 month seemed appropriate and so for the first game I figured 2 weeks was a good test time and since we started around the 14 I just rounded the 2 weeks up a bit so that we could end it on the 1st.

Judging by people's progress in the thread this seems like it will work ok but it's hard to know.

Ohh, yes, that is true as well. But if you can't figure that out then you're probably not ready to play La Mulana because that's the easiest puzzle in the game. I think I'd leave it at a guide to running the game in English, and let the newbies who find the entrance spoil the newbies who don't. It's just not the same otherwise.

Alternate possibility: Metroid

we could play one of paradox's "grand strategy" games. hearts of iron 3 would be cool, ive had that sitting on my hdd forever and havent really given it a try.

but i guess the learning curve is too steep for this thread esp for people unfamiliar with the genre. :/

I'm up for this, but I'm afraid you're speaking the truth. ):

Alternate possibility: Metroid

I've done metroid once before but it was a couple years ago and so it's not like I would know all the secrets or anything so I'd do it again.

I'd probably want to play the gba update though.  I think it's pretty much just a graphical update though so I think all the discussion would be the same regardless of who was playing what version.

might wanna do a vote this time, because a few of these sound good. i wouldn't do a game you have to pay for, though, since this is still pretty new. (especially one that's so difficult to get into.) you might lose some people doing that

Metroid Zero Mission for the GBA is not just a graphical update. It has changed absolutely tremendously to the point that it is only vaguely similar to the original. Players comparing notes between the NES and GBA will just be terribly confused.

Unless you're talking about the straight port of the NES game in the Classics series or whatever it was called.

If you're going to do a Metroidvania, why not make the next game something more obscure? Quackshot for the Genesis was pretty good and it keeps us from doing the same console and publisher twice in a row, though obviously it's a much harder game to obtain legitimately.

I still think La Mulana is the best choice, personally.

Quackshot isn't that hard to find.

But it is significantly more difficult to find than a freeware PC game and an NES title with literally over half a dozen official ports.

won't choosing an obscure game reduce the chances of more people joining in?  Facepalm

If you go into Options, Metroid ZM will let you play the Classic Metroid too. It's built right in. Wink

I was actually fiddling with NES Metroid (and Metroid LUA) just this past year. It might be a good follow-up follow-up, that or Super Metroid, or my personal to-do; the SuperMet ROMhack "Metroid SuperZero Mission." It's Super Metroid with about 350% as much level design, most of it being really cool and wisely designed.

Alternatively, I do think something along the lines of a subforum or a 2-3 games at a time approach could work; so it gives players a selection of what's going on. Maybe a child forum of "Games?"

I played a different Super Metroid hack years ago. It was notable because it even hacked Ceres Station to have a little obstacle course on the way back, with those baby metroid monsters and wrecked ship looking components. It was hard to do, especially because if you died and continued you respawned on Zebes afterwards. At the end, Torian was location up high in the sky, and you had to defeat the Meridia mini-boss during the escape sequence. The end section had a Speed Booster track you had to run and jump, and it resulted in you landing perfectly atop your spaceship to fly away.

I wish I could remember the name. I found it via a video on TAS videos many years ago, but I couldn't find it when I went back. I still have the hacked ROM, but it doesn't have a name on it (it is just named "Super Metroid") so that's no help either.

You know what else would be another amazing game to play together?

PokeMon Mystery Dungeon

Granted the first 25% of the game is boringly easy as shit but it would be very interesting on a number of levels:

-Seeing what PokeMon everybody's personality gets, and who they pick as a partner
-Where anybody gets stuck, or how far they can get through crap like Wish Cave
-Exchanging Rescue Mails whenever we lose

It's something that actually makes sense to play through together, as a group. :D
