I try to make a point of not getting in a huff over things that don't affect me.

On second thought I try to make a point of not getting in a huff at all.  Hugs?

I've learned recently that a conversation opened with a cynical remark doesn't tend to go in productive directions.

I find this a very interesting subject.  I encourage the OP to expand further on his post, I'd like very much to read more about it.

If you're not cynical about the game industry you are truly naive.

I'm not saying a cynical viewpoint is incorrect, just that cynical conversations go in useless circles and I've grown tired of them.  (I live with roommates who discuss politics constantly.)

That said, I agree that he ought to provide more basis for a discussion than the general remark made above.  Maybe some proper context?

EDIT: I should add.  Without a little bit of idealism I don't see how anyone could be an independent game developer.  If I had a darker outlook on the world, struggling to pay rent over the last eight months would have scared me off this line of work.

I'm cynical in the extreme and I think it's absolutely possible to succeed as an indie game programmer.

Since when do indies care about "investment capital" anyway?

Also, serious investors undertake a due diligence process slightly deeper than taking the company's own word for their user numbers.
