Hello there and welcome to the TIGSource Musical Challenge: ROUND IV!!! I'm your host, Sam English, and I'll be providing you with this week's challenge which is...

THE ROLLER-COASTER!

One important writing technique I think many composers (myself definitely included) are a little lacking with these days is good use of dynamics! No, and I don't mean dynamics processing. With this challenge I want to see who can create a song that captures the feeling of being on a roller-coaster mainly via use of varying levels of loudness. Endeavor to include as many of the emotions that go along with this event as possible (eg., excitement, anxiety, fear...). Another rule is your song must not exceed 2:30 minutes! Roller-coaster rides usually are shorter than that, so there is no need to go any longer. Make it whatever style of music you want!

GUIDELINE BREAKDOWN

  • Show an impressive use of dynamics.
  • Evoke as many feelings associated with being on a roller-coaster as possible.
  • Do not exceed 2:30.
  • No sound restrictions. Use whatever you wish!

Go forth, my friends, and show me the greatest ride of my life!

An extended deadline would be great for me (may not even be able to participate given that extension though)... way way too busy :{

So if we extend the deadline to, let's say, Monday, the 26th, how many more people would be able get it in on this?

Here's my entry. I think the piano is one of the most dynamic instruments there is (no, I don't play it). I tried to add dynamics to the whole piece but also L/R channel separately.

I haven't been on a proper roller-coaster, so I imagined a simpler up-and-down going joy ride. Sadly I discovered the competition just now and I didn't have much time but here it goes anyway.

Mine is composed but it'll be ready sometime later today, maybe this evening or tonight! Tongue
