Mael's Crew


Brief: You're a dungeon master, it's a Tower Defense game where you set monsters to play the role of towers. Simplified the description a bit but I'll talk more about it later.

Platforms: PC + Web (demo) + (preferably, not necessarily) iPad

I second that - sorry but `Dungeon Master` was a very special game of its time.
Going by your title I immediately thought "cool a Dungeon Master clone", its just hardwired into my brain :/

Thanks, it's just a codename so it'll be changed for sure, I think about the proper one, maybe Dungeon Defense? But it's not any original too.

Dungeon Defense is also already used (a Tower Defense game) ;-).

I would say, if you choose a name, first search it on google. If you dont find any hits it's a good name.

Maybe "Orc Towers" or something more special.

Ok, changed the game's name, hope it's proper now  Grin

Anyway, here is my first try at animation (no rendering), any tips? Feel exhausted after this, have to get used to animating  Waaagh!

My tip would be don't do any animation until the art style is locked down.
Animation can be a huge time sink, so leave it until you really need to.

So choose an art style you are happy with, then work into a single frame pose you are happy with before animating (if you are new to animation, and want to do drawn, check out http://www.amazon.co.uk/Animators-Survival-Kit-Principles-Stop-motion/dp/0571202284 perhaps - and maybe other animation threads on Tigs. Also try animating simpler things first, and work up to characters).

Or if you are animating for fun/practice ignore me and carry on Smiley

I really enjoy the artistic style. It has a very "Issac" look to it, which I think is pretty appropriate given the idea of the game.

I agree animation is not needed right now.
Hi, maybe you could make a full screen mockup with hud and background ?

About your animation, I can't get what move the orc is doing ? Half-attacking, half-walking, half parrying  Roll Eyes ?

Okay, I'm finally able to draw again, I had my right hand in a plaster for a while Sad

Anyway, I probably should mention that I've found a programmer for this! Will write more about this matter later, or maybe he will  Durr...?

Yep. Doing some technical tests atm.
This is a 3d version of the screenshot, running in Unity3d

Doesn't look so bad. Have to choose the right angle & test 2d integration now.

Thank you.
We'll try to have it look "hand painted" like in the screenshot. So no 3d lighting (like here) will be used, to keep the drawn feeling.
