originally the idea was the player had a rage meter instead of a health bar. and that counted up as you took damage allowing you to unleash more violent attacks, which made much more sense, but then I could find a proper explanation on why you died if your rage meter filled.

Nice game. I like the simplicity of it, as well as the non rogue-like gameplay style. I also like the pixel art - well done. Smiley

thanks. I recently made the game screen slightly larger so I can actually put this out on iOS if I want, but I still havent found a good way to increase the replay ability.

I looked at a bunch of games and tried thing of stuff to add to make the game more fun. one of the main problems I had was that the player has no stats. they have 9 health and 3 spells. one thing that I thought about possibly is perhaps making the spells random. (allowing the player to select one new spell each level. the main idea I had for that was making it so the player "mutated" but I can only really do changes to the face. and that only allows one change though.

example:

I think having one monster that's always different would be way more fun, but wasn't sure if I need to do the mutations idea. I was hoping I could do something to allow the player to change or have a feeling of progression. but its hard to have player progression without any stats.

the other idea is perhaps a tech tree. basically allow 4 spell levels in each slot and the player can increase one after every turn.

and the other other idea is throwing out the spells tied to health thing and just giving the player random spells that are only tide to a cooldown.

The Monster King is 120% for the mutation idea. The Monster King is also 120% for the rage idea!!

In GON (that japanese dinosaur manga) for SNES you actually got madder as you got hit. When you got TOO MAD Gon decided to DESTROY THE EARTH and it was game over.

You could also have the monster explode or have a heart attack due to not taking any anger management courses.

For mutations a spell a level is a cool idea. I'd give some passive effects too, those are always fun!

I am always encouraging game with monsters as protagonists. But make the monster feel monstrous, its easy to feel swarmed by just 2-3 tanks!

Maybe a skills deck? Unlock skills as you progress, allow for three/four card slots in-stage. With this, you may be able to design stages around certain deck combinations.

I liked the idea of the rage meter. If context was the only reason you omitted this, call it something like an "Atomic Meter" or somesuch. As your monster takes damage, its Atomic Energy builds up; if it peaks, BAGOW! Meltdown, death, annihilation, Starbucks goes out of business.

By the way: if you do ever find it in your heart to port this to mobiles, keep us unfortunate Android owners in mind, would you?

Okay, that was a lot of fun. Smiley It took a few shots to figure out the mechanics, but I found myself replaying over and over, whether I'd won or lost.

Just to check: There's no way to skip a move short of using your special, is there? I assume that is part of the challenge?

EDIT: So... addictive... can't.... stop.... playing...!
