My method of finding characters to add is like this.
I go to TIGdb, find something good, and then say, "hey, you should think about adding Blood Boy".

Super Joe for hidden character

New Characters

Iji and Naija are there just for reference to size.

Quote from Cave story----no concept yet, but soon.

Run-man from runman

Arianna  from Frayed Knights : skull of S'makh-Doan

Kaltos from The Spirit Engine 2

Griffin from Telepath RPG -- a really rough concept for him right now.

Holy crap, that's awesome! It's great to see the indie RPGs getting some love here. Grin
BTW, Griffin's move set is spelled out here if you need it.

Cool, Thanks fo the feedback guys!

I'll be working on Kaltos, Arianna, and Griffin for now. They are the hardest to sprite, and I'll save the easy ones for last (trilby, naija, runman, xoda, quote)

If you need ideas for characters, I've acquired quite a list for Indie Brawl. There's a  second list, too.

It's always nice to see some love for indie RPGs (especially Kaltos and Barkley).

wow, what's funny is that I recognized 90% of those characters! would have never thought to include the sumo block guys!
The thing is Ive got alot of spriting to do as it is, by myself at that.

Rpg's are great, they have the best plots, story and most interesting characters.

<typing with an Iphone sucks>

Progress

I made Griffin's running animation, took me about 3 hours. I also made his stance, but stances are mostly handled by the breathing effect in-game.

his cape is blowing in the wind during his running animation, its just hard to see on the forums.

running animations are the only real challenge for me to make, aside from the concept sprite.

Planning

I've been playing Spirit Engine 2, Frayed Knights, Telepath RPG, and Runman. Back to back pretty much.
I've gotten far into these games and I think I can come up with decent move sets, and stages.

Runman- he will have mostly lunge attacks for melee's and pretty much throws himself at you. His hang glider will be his up special.

Kaltos- his melée attacks will be his sword hack and slay, his specials include Charge, sword faith, thunder.

Quote- no punches or kicks for his melée attacks just fire's from his Polstar, the other guns are his specials including his jet pack.

Arianna- slow but powerful sword melée attacks, and spell casting by use of feats.

Duvalier- stabing knife melée attacks, specials like mind blast, and mind shock.
Griffin is an awesome character but Duvalier is the main character of TRPG SOG.

STAGES

5 new stages, I've got music for each character already. The stages are.

Bliss Valley(Runman),

 Egg Corridor (cave story),

 Ravinale (Trpg),

Wilderness (Frayed knights),

not sure which stage best fits Kaltos...maybe the military base.

Kaltos- his melée attacks will be his sword hack and slay, his specials include Charge, sword faith, thunder.
You might also consider Recover (regain hp) and Trick (a counter-attak, granted by certian shields).

It's hard to think of a good recovery for him, but at the end of chapter 7, he is carried by flying woodland creatures called Tiquits. They can just barely carry him, though. That's all I could think of.

Quote- no punches or kicks for his melée attacks just fire's from his Polstar, the other guns are his specials including his jet pack.
Don't forget, Quote also uses a sword (granted, he normally throws it, but there's no reason he couldn't swing it, too).

It comes into play later in the game, too, so it's probably a good choice.

Maybe Quote slashes with the sword twice and then blasts a shot from his Polar Star or throws the sword as a combo? It'd make for a good 'spacer' attack, since the ranged attack could hit you from a bit further away.

Hey, if anyone knows more about these games then me feel free to share. I've either played them at one point in the past, or I'm currently playing them and haven't beaten them yet.

I guess I should have taken notes heh heh...

@Soul - I had trouble trying to come up with an air recovery move for Kaltos. I was thinking of just making something up for him. I know he has no more attacks, I may try the 'Tiquits'.
