Sounds like a smart move and besides when you finish it the way you want, you can always go back and add in missing things.
Exactly what I was thinking. --------- I finished the Iji and Seiklus stages...As finished as they need to be anyway. For the indoor stages the shadow effect becomes a wall shadow, just to give you the feeling of being near a wall. The tall grass hides items, among other things.

It's hard to go wrong making your game trim and focused.

Hey, this is just nit-picky stuff, but what if instead of Light Blast on Duvalier, you had it shuffle through/pick randomly from all four of his elemental attacks. I'm a huge TRPG fan (thanks, Craig, if you see this one), and I dunno, it just seems like it'd be cooler that way, and maybe make more sense for the character. (Hell, you could add different effects to the different elements, if you really wanted to go into it)

Hey, Thats a really cool idea. Duvalier is one of those characters who has alot of powerful attacks to use. I could make an attack menu show over his health bar. * writes that down * sounds pretty good. Edit* oh wait I thought you said light 'bomb' lol, making the menu effect for a basic special is a bit much. I would do that for his hyper special though.

As someone who's been through this sort of thing before, I'm skeptical of adding animations for the sake of adding animations. It's a significant amount of extra work that could be used on something more meaningful.

Yeah, I'm not a programmer, but I like where you went with it haha. Using the bombs for his hyper would be awesome. Or maybe have him throw them one after the other

@Soulliard That's true, but if it's something simple and small I can just throw it in. I'm trying not to add too many un-needed things though.
------
In cutting a few things out, I can just go ahead and design the stages and work one the characters. Won't be too many items (I always turn them off anyway.) .
I may still use chzo for something, final boss maybe...It is the only evil force from any of the games who isn't dead after all, and it's pretty powerful...to the point that fighting it might not even be possible.
Or the final boss could be Naija's mother...eh... Oh sorry, spoilers if you didn't play Aquaria.

Barkley's stage : Neo New YorkShut up and jam is a top down RPG, so I pretty much got creative with the concept of a wrecked New York. Naija's stage : Sun TempleNaija and Seikleja will have swim states soon, all the other guys just kinda sink to the bottom.

RunMan's Stage : Bliss ValleyThe gimmick with this stage is that its supposed to be very amateur, so there are wall shadows to give that "your fighting in front of a picture" effect. I try not to use the slopes much, but they sorta' fit here.

You should make the lines on the triangles less straight so they look hand drawn. I guess you can just draw them by hand. Then they'll actually be hand drawn.

Drawing the lines without the line tool would give it more of a quality of mark I guess. Runman( the original game) has that drawn in ms-paint by a 7 year old look. I'll get on that when I'm off.

The straight lines give it that mspaint look, but non-straight lines would make it look like someone actually drew that picture (badly) "in-universe", and make it seem less out of place.
Maybe have the lines straight (and smoother on the clouds and hills) but have the colours go over them a bit as if it was a badly filled in colouring book.

Alrighty, I had a 7 year old girl color the background image this time. I edited it a bit though. It was messy.
