Oh hello, what's all this then? http://0x10c.com/

Sounds pretty interesting actually, especially the 16bit emulated cpu jazz.

Edit: And I have absolutely no idea how to pronounce the name. Zero Extense? Hex Ten See? 16 speed of light?

0x10299792458?
Well, that's a big number. Unless it means 0 times instead of 0x. If it's 0x, that's probably something to do with hexadecimal number system.

Anyway, the game sounds pretty cool. Sucks that it's being made by Notch, though- the fanbase will be terrible right from the start. Singleplayer for me it is, then.

It's hex, including the c, which means it's 16^12. The background to the game is that some space sleep chambers had a software bug which meant 1 year was taken to mean 16^12 years.

the announcement indicates that itll have single/multiplayer via "the multiverse" whatever that is. i guess it means youre going to encounter AI controlled versions of other players' ships as you cruise through space or sth?

idk why hes announcing it when he has nothing to show other than a vague laundry list of ideas.

The 16-bit emulated CPU is a really awesome thing... We are actually learning programming in assembler for an 8-bit atmega169 CPU this semester. Looking forward to programming Pong for it Smiley

Monthly fee makes me very sad.

Only for the multiplayer, where the physics and computer emulation would run persistently serverside. I don't think it's sensible to offer a service like that for a one time fee. If they did, they could end up having to shut the persistent world down while there are players who still want to play in it and have paid what was the price for doing so, or they'd be facing unbounded running costs without income that covers it.

because he's Notch, he can. Little random idea pitch will make the fan dance in joy, so why not? Plus i believe he will finish it.

That doesn't sound so bad then. I'm glad I don't have to be grumpy and write off the whole game as being not for me now.

So it's basically "Heat death of the universe - the game"? >_>

Because people will talk about it on twitter, forums, reddit, etc. Making people aware of an idea they're working on isn't a bad thing at all.  Grin

It sounds interesting and all by like a few other people are saying, monthly subscription turns me off on this. I have way too many other games to play.

Yeah, like many, I'm not sure about the monthly sub either. But you never know, it might be really cheap.

Going back to the cpu, I was thinking earlier if it's going to be a fully emulated affair I wonder if people would be able to make and transmit viruses to other peoples ships.

And apparently you will be able to do that according to his twitter
Quote from: notch
And I won't stop viruses, the players will have to do that themselves.

So that's kinda cool. And by kinda I mean very. For some reason that prospect excites me.
