This is really promising, I love the minimal interface whereby the numbers first research prerequisites and then allow you to build - very elegant.

I noticed one little thing, not sure if it's a bug or a tactical feature, but you can see asteroids move on the map as the other team harvests - it does rather give away where their resource operation is!

If this isn't intended, maybe you could hide asteroids on the map when they get picked up - it'd still give clues but they'd be more subtle.

Cheers,

Will

@ Will Vale, thanks!
The other team is exactly opposite to you at all times, so the give away is not really that bad. Showing the asteroids can however disclose some other vital information, like say where your opponent is heading. It's worth giving hid assteroids a try.

@ Bezzy, yeah, Im pretty happy with the menu to!
This is a joint operation though. Besides me, Jeb and thewreck is working on the project, so I can't take all the praise myself  Cool

Crashed at startup on my laptop (running vista...).

Edit: Crashed on the desktop too, giving a missing .dll error (MSVCR71.dll).

Ah, I keep forgetting to include those dlls. You can find them here: http://www.oxeye.se/files/stuff/redist.rar

Not sure why it wont run in Vista, I will have to re-compile the exe when I get to the other comp.

Works perfectly! Game is amazing. Great work guys!

Edit: One thing I'd change is making heavier units a bit hardier... the frigates can get destroyed too quickly to be useable.

Oh, I also noticed that the missle frigate took a long, long, long time to destroy the mothership on its own, while the plasmagun frigate took it down much, much faster.  Of course the plasma frigate makes sense, it is a large target destroyer, but the missle frigate seemed to do too little damage to the mothership.  It took forever to kill it, long enough for the motherships small gun to take off a third or more of the missle frigates health.
And for some reason the stealth fighter seemed to turn around when ever it fired.  It would be facing the enemy, and then rapidly switch orientation, fire out of its back, and then turn back.
And I had no problems running this in Vista.  Worked first try.

McAndrews: Yeah, the Hulk has been slightly rebalanced.

New version is up!

- S stops units
- H sets units on hold position
- B toggles build screen on/off
- Build shortcuts have been moved, so expect some initial confusion*. In the next version we should have a proper GUI with clickable buttons.
- Online play auto-adjusts for lag
- Plasmagun Frigate deals less damage
- Missile Hulk is cheaper
- Missile Hulk attack range can be upgraded
- Blasters have slightly better attack range
- Construction rate research now requires fighter chassi research
- Bug fixing...

http://www.oxeyegames.com/files/ourglobe/OurGlobe.rar

* Don't get too attached to the current shortcut layout either...

The new UI is a vast improvement! I don't think you'd need clickable buttons with this UI.

New version,

- Shadow Fighters now deal "normal type" damage, which means they are better at harassing large ships, such as harvesters
- Shadow Fighters have a new technology upgrade, the "Web Attack", which slows down units

EDIT: Ouups... re-uploaded.

Oh, I'm playing the newest version, and when the units come out of the mothership newly spawned, they all go to the exact same location, making it look like that stack of 20 catchers is really one.  If you move them they automatically move into the normal spread out position.  Its not anything too bad, just alittle annoying to not know how many catchers or blasters you have selected so far.

New monocle-popping "FINAL" version!

- New background artwork by Kinten
- Build screen by thewreck
- No more missing sound effects
- Shadow Fighter nerfed back to about what it was
- Command groups (ctrl+number to create, number to select)
- Victory/defeat message

NOTE! New link (the game has been renamed, Kinten will update first post later):

Hehe... Home Globe? Our World? House World? House Globe! Took a few edits, but alas, now Kinten has gone out for beer and girls, and left the title mis-spelled none-the-less. It's supposed to be "Artifact" Smiley

 Shocked

Wonderful. The interface is actually intuitive. And easy to use. And it all looks really nice - AND talks to me.

I haven't tried two player yet, but I have a brother. So, only a matter of time. Also, the menu? Very awesome.

Buuut, I'd really like to see some kind of (small!) bar down the bottom telling me little things - how many units have been selected, maybe some unit stats, and etc. RTS style. It'd be a nice addition, I think.

@Gainsworthy: Yeah, that would be a nice feature indeed! We'll see what we can do about it

@SlayerXL: Love right back at ya!

@Alec, you want it recorded or live feed? (Live at $5/h. but then you can tell us what to do).
