You can notice that too in games made with large teams too, I think Dota 2 has a pretty awesome cohesive style/character to it.

not the best example because it's a remake, with the same exact characters, of a game made by a small team
i'm noticing a pattern of you never knowing anything about what you say

Oh yeah, what was I thinking? I forgot every game out today with the same chiseled-face space marine smoldering dude is vastly superior to every game that ever came before it. Because like, all you too fat/too skinny/too beta nerds can relate to what it's like to be one of these badass space marine FPS doods:

My oh my such great diversity and creativity in character designs these days, eh??

Dont go all nostalgic guys and gals. Dont do it. STOP LIVIN IN THE PAST!

Cmon guys. Y'all exxageratin'. Its not true that things were better back then. It really isnt. Things just changed a little. Theres just more variety, games suck in different ways, are varied in different ways, games evolved. And theyre still evolving all the time. Theres still weird colorful games, games that try new things. Or games that go with old formulas but give em a new shine. Or some games just keep on being the same, but thats alright. If those games were gone, people who like them would be sad too! We wouldnt want that, would we? Have a heart!

We just have selective memory about the past. There was shovelware back then, too. If there had been an infrastructure and the technology for it, companies like Zynga would have existed already. Nothing fundamental has changed in human nature that suddenly permitted parasites like Zynga to appear. Things have just grown. Theres games for everyone. They wont even run out you guys. Theres infinite games. Honestly people I dont see why anyone would be bitter like that. Seriously people just make some games. Its all good guys.

Even movies are still good guys. And TV. Jesus christ did y'all see that Game of thrones stuff?! And Breaking Bad and Community and all them shows on the Tee Vee? I thought TV was supposed to be crud! Its not crud at all, its pretty good. And even music. I SWEAR, I listened to some recent music and it was pretty dope. They know what they're doing. Its a beautiful thing. Its all okay guys!!!!

Its... its all good. Its going to be okay.

You're missing the point if you think anyone's saying that every "modern" game is superior to every game that came before it.

I know right? Skyrim has more variety than the entirety of the "modern" half of that picture in just its character creation options. And that's just one game.

Edit:
didnt you already post this? i kinda remember someone tearing it apart in another thread
It was probably in the "good character designs" thread. There was a thread started in response to the whole debacle in which people posted good "modern" character designs. It also reminds me of a similar discussion in the animu thread. (There hasn't been any good anime in the past 10 years. Oh, I mean besides Studio Ghibli's productions. And Redline. And The Tatami Galaxy. And everything recent on that list of "worthwhile anime.")

There are plenty of good old games and there are many bad modern games. But there are also many bad old games and plenty of good modern games. That's why GOG.com was called "Good Old Games" before they officially renamed themselves to GOG.com, rather than just "Old Games" or "Good Games."

It's easy to prove to yourself that everything good was in the past, and if that's what you choose to believe, no amount of evidence or reasoning can convince you otherwise. But even if your tastes aren't aligned with those of the current "mainstream" games industry, there are so many games being made nowadays that you're bound to find something that you like. After all, "good" is subjective, isn't it?

This is the important bit. Everything else doesn't matter. What Phubans is saying might be true, or it might not be, as we have no way of telling from that dumb picture, but what matters is that he wants it to be true, and like fuck it won't be true by the time he's done with it.

Still love how the bottom part is taken almost entirely from JRPGs, many of which are either side characters or monsters.

It's especially funny considering the wild-hair sword-wielding hero with a bandana is a pretty common trope for JRPGs, about as common of a sight as the "bald space marine" (Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Shining Force, etc.).

It goes a little somethin' like this:

>Attempt to make valid, legitimate, and thoughtful points
>Everyone automatically dismisses anything I have to say because I'm phubans
>Engage full troll mode, everyone flips their shit
>Reinforce the notion that I should never be taken seriously

But in all serious, yeah you guys are mostly right about a lot of things. Now if you don't mind me, *puts nostalgia glasses back on* ... it... it's beautiful.
