I really like the whole look of the game. One thing I can't really figure though, is why the main character has a black outline, while in conceptart he is completely white. Sure, a reason for it would be to make him more obvious against the backgrounds, but, wouldn't it look better without, can't you do something with the shading, shadows on the backgrounds or something? Nothing but love for the game, keep at it!

I think for the interactions, having the speech bubble thing would make it more immersive and kind of maintain the illusion of the game, whereas a simple "press C to interact" kind of breaks that more.
Also, this is looking sexy as all get out.

Taking another quick look, I agree with Esquar. Compared with the clean look of the environments, the main character stands out, but not really in a good way.

Yeah, I'm not sure about that sprite either. I think part of it is how the outline gets lighter when going over his chin, and that seems to disconnect that area from the rest of it. I did a little test of sorts on the outline/shading darkness, though nothing really sticks out as the way to go.

I've given him that particular outline because of the range of backgrounds and colours that he is going to be against, Originally he was pure white with shading, but when put up against a couple of the areas, he was just... lost.
I don't really think there's any other option than this. I suppose I could lighten the outline slightly, but that always seems to look worse.
If anyone can think of a better solution, don't hold back.

No, I think the way you've got it now is just fine. It works, it's really nice, and no, it's not perfect, but when it comes to spriting I think perfect is pretty impossible.

you could always resprite him for every environment, so as to get ideal viewing pleasure. but that's not really realistic i guess.

could you have the outline, like the far outline outline, not the inline outline, be like some separate sprite or something with some crazy blending shit applied to it so it's the inversion of the bg color? or something?
or maybe just have it so that only the very edge of the sprite is black outlined and the inner outlines are just a dark gray?

LEDGE SOLIDITY +10! I'm not sure that I understand about the sparseness that you mentioned, care to elaborate? That's What I'm Tolkien About! Much better. Nice and haphazard, too. Especially like the little wire hanging from the truss. By sparseness, I just meant it wasn't a particularly interesting screen when compared to your others. They always have... fascinators in them - be they cogs, balloons or buildings, or little things like rocks, a shrub, or some falling leaves. This didn't. The main feature was a rather weird looking outcrop. NOW, however, the main feature is a far more natural outcrop, and it looks great. Small touches, I guess. On Cornelius' sprite... I think it looks fine. Yes, the outline is a little odd in Static Screenshots, but he's pretty small and I think other options would drop visibility or clarity. In motion it'd probably be un-noticable, really.

I personally think the little guy's standing outness, it makes him unique. And visible. >.>;
Also, really like the tram station. The little metal bars/truss/whateverit'scalled are really cool and whatnot.
This looks real fun! =D

I vote for keeping the outline, it makes him stand out more. And it's pixel art, pixel art isn't about fancy shadings and realistic outlines, it's about dots. The current outline is a bunch of black dots. What you guys are proposing is fancy shadings and realistic outlines. So I say go with the current outline, do it for the pixels.

i think a very dark gray outline would look better and still give sufficient contrast

Yeah i prefer it with that dark grey outline. But i think it's because all the rest of the colours in that screen are so muted, fully black looks a bit odd. It's really hard to judge with a static screen though. Also loving the new outcrop. The metalworks look great. They remind me of world of goo for some reason.

Fanart is the best thing ever. Awesome, I love how his nostrils look almost like a sleazy french moustache. EDIT: In regard to Cornelius' outline, any grey will possibly fade into a bg that he is against. I've had bad experiences with greys as outlines before, more often than not they don't look too tasty. I think I'm going to stick with the *really dark grey* (read:not black, as you folks seem to think) because it really makes him stick out, and works well against almost any background. EDIT2: I took a break from my *all important* biology essay to make some music for the cafe. Mebe. Dunno. It might be a bit too frantic, what with my crappy piano and stuff. fleh.sereneworx.com/cafe/Cafe2.mp3For those who might wish to know, I originally—it seems like so long ago now—had battlerager doing to the music (he's the awesome skullboy composer) but I'm not sure anymore, I feel like Cafe is going in quite a different direction than what it was back then. So we'll see.

Post Removed*. Sometimes I'm such a newbie, it hurts. Really sweet tune! Had me be-bopping. The frantic nature really works, but only if it isn't looped much. The start and the end are very distinct. It'd be good for a short environment (a recurring room of some sort, I guess), or some kind of upgrade screen. Something like that. *Here lies a deleted post. It Read: FOUR OH FOUR'D Fix the broken link or your Biology All-Nighter will be for naught!

Ooo nice tune! Its like it was composed on the spot, so I personally think it fits a cafe, with a group/band/whatever playing. Or something.
EITHER WAY... I liked it. Very nice.
