First, but make the pixels all the same size.

I don't think either of those look as good as the original softness glow. It carried a lot of appeal, to me.

I quite liked the dreamy feel that it added, but it does look out of place.
I'm going to have to messa round a bit more, see if I can find a comfortable medium.

I agree. Especially in the one with the lava and the balloon.... the orange light/glow there was magical.

I didn't mean to turn this into a debate on soft vs pixellated lighting :D It is an interesting question though. I'm planning to implement a lighting effect in my game as well. This is how I did it in one of my own mock-ups. Overlapping lights might be a problem with this method. Here are some of my attempts, along with one of the original lights: The floating light in my edit has a non-linear falloff, which I think looks better than the linear one (and more accurate).

God I love coffee. And these mocks.
I'm so happy that you're playing with the lighting. Just saying.

And i like gradient mixed with pixel art, gives a more original and less flat look. Also because doesn't matter if the light is a gradient or a pixellated circle, if you're using alpha you're already out that "hardcore pixel art" look

Man, this looks so, so good. I loved the mockups when I first saw them so I'm very happy this is going further as a project. Good luck with it <3 coffee

Lovely. I especially love those trees, they are somehow so very special.
I vote for the non-linear gradient type of light halo.

Wahhh! I've been a lurker on this forum for so long now, but the concept art for this game is so awesome. Also, i <3 coffee to an unhealthy degree.
If no one else has the chance to create this game, I would love to do it. I am reasonably proficient in actionscript 3 (and working on an engine that would be suitable for this game at this very moment!) so you would be able to play the game in a browser window. Fancy hitech stuff right there.
If Flink does do it, then all the best to you guys. At least you made me finally post on this forum :D Now I have to participate.
PS. Konichiwa to TIGsaucers. Nice to meet you. *tips hat*

This may end up being the most developed idea that never gets past the concept stages.
Dude, get gamemaker.
