This will essentially be a waste of forum space I am sure, but... what the fuck does The Tester even have to do with video games?
I think somewhere in my mind I thought it was going to be something akin to that old Nickelodeon "Nick Arcade" game show where they had various video game trivia and challenges and whatnot but the portions of the episodes I could hold back my nausea long enough to watch looked like some kind of shitty "The Real World" or "Road Rules" garbage.
Is there anything redeeming and worth watching in any of the episodes? Has anyone here made it through an episode, or even a season without vomiting (if yes, you deserve a medal)?

Unless you are dressed as Link or Leisure Suit Larry, what the fuck does shooting melons with a slingshot have to do with video games?

i've made it through a couple episodes, and it doesn't have anything to do with videogames really. it's just more marketing for sony. if they actuallly wanted another video game tester then they'd easily be able to find a more qualified person instead of doing this.

Are the judges even gamers? Or do they just work for Sony? Cause the broad who called buddy out for living with his mom looks like she's not the gamer type, just some reality show bimbo. What happened to pen and paper, all the judges have iPads... Also I really miss shows like Video & Arcade top 10, Video Power and Nick Arcade. Oh wow, Video & Arcade was still on the air until 2006.

How can we make a profitable show about videogames appeal to a wider audience?
I know. We'll make a reality TV show! And here's the catch - it'll have nothing to do with videogames.
Perfect!

I just watched two episodes of season 3 and I have never heard of this show before. It's basically among the most irritating things I have seen in my life and I'm kind of curios why this topic didn't end in a more serious debate. Seriously, commercializing video game culture was really taken one step too far this time. Apparently it was really "too far" this time regarding all those dislikes BUT "The Tester" still isn't too far away from formats like IGN and stuff. Well, this involves rather sociology than actually video games, but since this is the general forum, I think it might be still fitting. I have not yet seen a discussion about all those lousy attempts to commercialize video game culture or to make playing video games look fancy and hip. However, I think it's a rather interesting topic. If you just analyze'd the Wii U trailer shown at this years E3: some aedequately dressed mid 20s guy who apparently talks to his action figure while playing videogames after socializing with hundreds of friends online. Really, those attempts are hilarious yet concerning. It's not really that cool and edgy to collect action figures or even speak to them and moreso it's not sociable at all and it will never be. Neither is it edgy or funny - if it is anything at all, it's in fact just sad. The new fancy image of gamers the industry tries to accomplish is absolutely absurd. Well, I kind of drifted apart and I might start a topic on this during the next couple of days (in better english since i'm in a hurry right now ). To stay on topic: Video games is not fucking Jersey Shore. It's serious fucking business.
