Really cool!

Are the additions to the ship incremental, or does it take locational damage (if you are hit in the back, do back parts go away)?

Right now they are not location dependent. No matter where you were hit you loose the last upgrade.

We left this project on pause for a while but we are starting to work on it again.
It's been selected to participate in the expo GameOn here in Argentina.
We've decided to make an arcade cabinet of the game for the expo, so we now have to start working on that too.

The process of building the cabinet is going a little bit slow, because we have not experience at all with in the subject, so there's a lot of google searches and blog readings (one blog that I really like is this).
We visited a couple of places where they sell old arcade cabinet, because our idea is to use one as a base for our game (we have no time or money to build our own customized cabinet... maybe next time).
Here's a picture of our search:

We've also bought our first part.... the White Joystick!
We couldn't find any white joysticks here in Argentina, and that was a very important piece (a red joystick on our black&white game was not an option!), so we had to buy from ebay.uk. We hope it will arrive on time.
This is what we bought:

Won't you get problems with the TV overheating, as it's built for cooling itself in the standard position?

Our first idea is to try to use an original arcade monitor. Those monitors are prepared for using them in vertical position, so I don't think we are going to have problems with that. We may have other problems related with using an arcade monitor  Smiley
If that doesn't work our second idea is to use a TV. It might be harder to get it inside the cabinet, but we now that we like how the game looks on a TV and that we only need a graphic card with tvout to use it.

I've started with some electronics for the cabinet.
We are planning on adding some lights controlled by the game, in response to certain actions (I'll upload more details later)
Here's a video of the first communication tests between the Flash Game > Controller App > Electronic Board
You can see the led blinking when the ship fires

We've just bought an old cabinet to use as a base for ours:
