Hi there,

My name is Alejandro Iglesias, I am an indie game developer from Argentina, with my friend Martin Gonzalez (another local indie) we are trying to teach some concepts and ideas about games, and game designs to kids (ages from 13 to 17 more or less). We travel around the country (visiting diferent cities) with a team of creative people who make animation, modeling, radio, digital tv, and robotics.

Currently we are using Spelunky (awesome game!) and his level editor, but, we are looking  for another game because Spelunky need to much time to learn how to play it very well. Our class is from 2 to 4 hours, so we sometimes haven´t enough time. Even more, we have from kids who doesn't know how to use his computer (a national plan -conectar igualdad- gives a netbook per kid in school) to kids who knows programming!

The netbook specs:
Processor: 1 Ghz
Ram: 1 GB.
SO: Win 7, sometimes, Win XP.
Graphics: Onboard, 128Mb shared memory, 1024 x 600 default resolution.
LCD screen 7.5 inches more or less.

We really want/need to hear suggestion for another indie games with level editors in game (free o educational purpose free) to use in this PCs.

Thanks for read, greetings!

I loved Karoshi 2.0's level editor, although the game has a kinda touchy thematic.  http://www.venbrux.com/karoshi.php

You could give Straima a whirl, it's still indev but there's a fair bit to play around with. The levels are small and tile based so it's pretty quick to get going and it has co-op play which I hear the kidz dig nowadays.

Thanks a lot to  everyone for the suggestions! I will check it one by one. If someone know other games, just let me know! Smiley

Derek, your game is so awesome (I won't miss the oportunity to say it!). If you are interested or curious I can send you some levels made by the kids.

Seconding Knytt Stories. It's super easy to use and I would assume it's easy to teach. Really fast results.

Also, have you heard of Stencyl? It's an up-and-coming Flash game creation toolkit. You could pretty easily make a basic engine and just have them edit levels with that. You could also graduate them to basic scripting from that, too.
