Remember Nitronic Rush, that sweet DigiPen game that was a combo of San Francisco Rush 2049 and Tron? Well, some of the original team members have made their own indie group, Refract Studios. And their first project? Distance. They're doing Kickstarter both for needed costs (like software license fees) but also because they really want feedback for direction in the game. There are some major requested things in Nitronic coming true, like live multiplayer (as opposed to racing ghosts), and a easy to use editor and modding encouraged. From a dev standpoint, they're also going to be using Unity for this, as opposed to the custom built engine Nitronic used. Right now they're at about 25% with a little over 3 weeks to go. Let's show Refract the support they deserve! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1857884659/distance-a-next-generation-arcade-racer

Hey Alistair! Thanks for posting the Tiny Barbarian kickstarter, I was just on my way here to mention it. I still feel like I owe TIGSource a big thanks for being such a great resource when I was working on the first game!

mayber after we have reimagined them, videogames will be completely different, like some sort of new lifeform or sthg. Maybe they will change us, for better or worse, new senses, new powers and new responsibilities. maybe it's the end of man as we know it, a singularity ("...this kills the man")

This this this. Words cannot describe how fantastic a space like this would be. Plus, 30 games for $15 is an amazing deal.

I think 30 games for $15 just makes it sound like the games won't be good ... it reminds me of those "250 games on one CD" collections. Especially since there aren't really many details about the games. If you have a lot of trust in the developers then it's a little better, but still, even if they're good, it sounds overwhelming ...

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/robotloveskitty/legend-of-dungeonWHat do you guys think of this? I think the people behind it are great people (they seem really nice), but I played it and could barely get into it at all, though roguelike elements have never vibed with me, for one reason or another. Maybe it gets really fun with 4 players?

The dungeons felt a little too cramped, but I enjoyed it otherwise! The lighting made it incredibly pretty to look at. It's still very early in development, so I'd give it a little bit of time, but I'm liking where it's headed.

like during the prohibition era when everybody could have his own alambic, nowadays everybody can become rich overnight with kickstarter new creative ways to part people of their money

wouldn't there be something in the rules against this? I don't even understand why he would think this is a good idea

Well, Kickstarter gets their share of the same dollars twice, so I don't think they'd be motivated to have rules against it...
