Hey. I've been pixelling for awhile, but I thought that it might be useful to ask for some advice on how to improve.

On the left is the original, and the right is the improved version. I guess I'm going for more of a GBA feel.

Any ideas? What do you think of it - what could improve?

EDIT: Also, I'm trying to understand how best to do colored outlines. I'm trying things like having the 'shadow' color be the outline color on lighter areas, and the outline color for the darker areas. An example is the girl's shirt and hair areas, but I can't use it all of the time without it getting muddy sometimes. So, am I doing it right? Is it just best to have a consistent outline color?

EDIT 2: Also:

Out of all of the I like this one the most. The colours are vibrant and contrast well. Really does look like fire and has great form.

You mean something like this?

Perhaps not what you're going for, but I'd do this:

@Rasse - Something like that. It's darker, but also is pretty good.
@Yrgkala - Interesting. Has a very 'sub-pixel' look, like it's rendered from a larger image / 3D model. I think I could work a bit more on my structure - it seems like I can see more of the character's features in yours.
@Damian - Thanks!

~- Pretty much the same image is below -~

Here's something that I made testing out the Kuler color tool. I don't think I'm using the tool particularly correctly, but I kind of like it. The right set of colors is for the top image, the 'middle' circles are for the bottom, and I never got around to using the left one. The shadows are a bit hard to manage for this...

EDIT:

Okay, so some Kuler palettes just don't work for games. I need to make sure that I get enough contrast when I make a palette...

The girl's hips are a bit flat, huh... Not sure how I could fix that, though.
