After a slight delay, here's the topic for the TIGSource Musical Challenge VI:
Descent into Madness!
Start with any type of tune you'd like, hinting at what's to come only subtly, if at all. By the end of the song, it should have evolved to reflect the slow demise of a character's psyche as, say, their mind is overtaken by a malicious external influence.
I chose the word madness, but I will be flexible there--feel free to ignore the negative connotation as long as some sort of surreal, chaotic elements are introduced throughout the song!
Challenge ends next Friday, May 11th at 8:00 PM (GMT - 8:00) <- new deadline Hope to hear your take on it!
Personal side note: I won the previous challenge by default, which was a bummer. Don't let some other poor soul suffer the same fate if you can help it! I tried to come up with a prompt that wasn't any kind of barrier for entry, but that ended up adding to my putting this post off, so I went with my initial idea, which I'm afraid might be tricky--hope it works.

Ah this sounds fun it's a little late into this one to do it (though I have an idea or two floating around) but I'd be up for the next one!

Nice one quentunahelper!
Anyone else working on anything? 2 days till the deadline... These appear to have a history of getting extended, and I'm open to following suit on that.

They also have a history of being a bit longer than a week. Maybe the end of the school year has a hand in the inactivity, or the inactivity of the challenge itself.

Hmm, I looked at the past few, and they all appeared to start out with a week and then extend out to ~1.5 weeks as the deadline neared. I didn't want to build an extension in from the get-go, but it's certainly an option at this point! If people want to take advantage of some extra time, let me know!

Good to hear some interest! Would keeping it open until this Friday be enough, or would another weekend be better?

Crap, everything got so busy in the past few days. I eked out a structure of a song but I have next to no time to work on it in the next 13? hours. May post here anyways though

this is as much as i could muster - not finished, of course. i just rushed the bass for the "2nd half" in the past 20 minutes. maybe parts of it are enjoyable though o_o This was fun, at least, even though I'm not anywhere close to satisfied http://soundcloud.com/seagaia/ham-sandwich-wip

OK, here is some feedback and the results. I had to beat back my reluctance to give candid reactions to these tracks--I hope I'm being constructive! In order of entry... Quentunahelper - MetalluxThis track had good variety between sections, which were quite catchy. I'm not quite convinced it fits the prompt, though. In terms of production, I found the gain-pumping distracting during the more active sections (perhaps it could be argued that it adds to the sense of madness...) seagaia - ham sandwich (wip)I really loved the overall ballpark-classical approach you took! It brought me back to my Dragon Quest 3 addiction. The transition from the first major half into the minor half was very well done, and it's clear that there was a change in tone. However, I don't think it made it into "surreal, chaotic" territory, as prompted (I do remember that you said you'd've added more if you had the time, and I can almost hear it starting up during the fade-out) Shuffle Bit Sound - FesterThis was a very well produced track. I love the way that the transition creeps up on the listener. You created a unsettling vibe in what I'd call the "madness" section, which totally satisfied the prompt. The tempo boost at the end adds an interesting bit of narrative to it, also. With that, the winner is... Shuffle Bit Sound!!!So you're on for the next challenge! Thanks for the entries, guys!

well that was fun yeah, it was literally minutes throwing the last few measures (hence the fadeout >_>) together/adding some dynamics before I had to run off to catch a movie will definitely allocate more time next time!
