Hello everyone, I'm here looking for anybody who happens to be interested in working with me and a few friends in creating our idea for a post-apocolyptic 2d sidescrolling shooter (M)MORPG called Bane.
For those who are interested in the plot, it's basically a story that takes place a century after the nuclear war. Only the rich and powerful have survived with the aid of survival bunkers, while the more unlucky inhabitants on the surface dealt with severe extictions and wipeouts, the lucky living with gruesome mutations. The air on the surface is now survivable, and so you, the player, are sent to the surface world to help restructure society, clean out and deal with the mutations, scout out more surviving groups and assist in foreign affairs, and most of all, enjoy exploring the vast (some radiated) lands of old Earth while you discover new ways to play and interact with other players by means of friendly PvP, nations at war, mission quests, and more.
Our goal is to make this in to an MMORPG, with the goal of having many, many people playing it together. We have the money to make it so server-wise, and we have the sufficient programming knowledge to make this work. The thing we don't have, and very much require, is more talent in the art and sound departments.
If you're just saying to yourself "Okay, nice, you have an idea. A lot of people have ideas, it doesn't mean you can get them done." and you want some more extensive information on the technical side of things: we're using Java to create the game client and game servers, with a networking library called Kryonet which allows for very efficient object serialization, we're using Box2D (serverside) for physics, bone animations, and HTML5 to create Bane's development tool library, and a good 'ol MySQL database server for storing all cross-server data.
Okay, now that you're somewhat familiar with Bane itself, this is where you ask yourself, "Do I want to help make this future hit a reality?"
We're sure hoping you do! But first, here's what we would like to see:
*Be able to make stunning background scenery that fits the foreground sprites
*Be flexible in your style. We would like someone who can adapt and work with other artists!
*Be able to accept constructive criticism. Your work will be very important because it brings the world together visually, which is an important thing.
*You do NOT need to know how to animate, we will have a tool for it.
*We are using bone (multi-image) animations, so basically your job will be to create sprite 'pieces' that will be jointed together.
*Be able to change your style a bit
*Make sure you can create good-looking, appealing sprites.
*Accept constructive criticism.
*Be able to make music that is either erie, inspirational, suspenseful
*Your job is very important, be able to make a wide array of semi-cartoon-oriented sound effects.
*Be able to fit sound with look. We don't want an epic looking game to have silly sound effects!
And for every single one, have a sense of humor! We're not sticks in the mud, we do joke around. It's important to develop friendliness with your fellow game designers, we don't want people who can't take a joke or spare some time to have fun with their team.
The jobs are volunteer only as of now, this means no pay. However, if you still remain on the team around the time we implement for-cash benefits (cash shop, extra features), you will of course get your fair share in profits for helping work on the game. Just help us make it big, and you get to bask in the earnings as well.
If you're interested, great! Just message me and we can get to talking to see if you would be right for the job. And don't worry about spaces left, the more the merrier. I'll take this down when i'm sure there are enough people.
