I used to be an avid follower of the various 1UP podcasts. In fact, it was an episode of the 1UP show featuring an interview with Derek Yu (about Aquaria) that was my introduction to the indie scene in general. It was really a quality podcast; shame it wasn't financially viable.

Nowadays I listen to the Geekbox (Ryan Scott/Karen Chu/others) and Rebel FM (Anthony Gallegos, Matt Chandronait/others), both of which are full of 1UP alums, and both are really entertaining.

If we want to extend the discussion to podcasts in general, I have listened to every episode of The Moth podcast for the past 4-5 years. It's a show wherein people simply tell stories about their lives. Fantastic stuff, and a few famous people hither and thither (nobel prize winners, famous authors, children show tv hosts, amongst others).

In my opinion, the best gaming podcasts are Idle Thumbs (on hiatus but it's coming back soon thanks to kickstarter) (the backlog is actually really easy to listen to, I only started this year), Giant Bombcast (really long but I listen to it when walking to class during the week) and Retronauts when Jeremy Parish was running the show.

I listened to Geekbox. I liked it. Rebel FM is okay too, though it's a lot like the IGN casts. But I'll still listen to it sometimes. It rounds me out.

I'm going through the other one's that people are mentioning.

The other ones that get regular attention:
  . The Economist (news, various)
. The Escapist (sometimes, geeky, very geeky)
. This Week in Startups (best tech startup cast there is, at least that I've found)
. Back to Work ("productivity" guy, motivational speaker, ADD tech-person rambles about how people should do their jobs more effectively)
I'm also nutso about Extra Credits, though not a cast.

I'm also looking for some better news. BBC on the web is probably my best source right now, but it's just 2 min clips you have to sort through yourself. I wish someone would create an AI for this stuff.

I used to listen religiously to the 1UP podcast and then Rebel FM when it became that, but kind of stopped listening in 2010 after realizing that they have the opposite taste in games as me (and Arthur is always so pissy). still some good discussions on there, namely the dating advice.

haha yeah, the dating advice is pretty hilarious. i also enjoy anthony's self deprecating humor and various stories from his childhood.

I listen to a lot of podcasts, I used to listen to more, but I stop if they get too snarky or talk about things they don't like, too much. This is the main reason why I quit listening to Geekbox. I also used to listen to Rebel FM and 1up podcasts, the only one I still do is Retronauts, because they reminisce about games past that they like.

I spend alot of time riding my bike and most of these aren't weeklys.

What I'm currently subscribed to:

Gaming:
A Life Well Wasted(On Hiatus, but listen to the backlog)
Another Castle(infrequent, but really interesting chats)
Indie games.com Podcast(infrequent and usually pretty good)
Irrational Podcasts (real neat insight into a cool creative run studio)
Ludology (Talking about game mechanic theroes)
Playable Character (Kinda picked up where a Life Well Wasted left off, also infrequent)
Brainy Gamer Podcast(infrequent, good talk about games)
The Bethesda Podcast(Similar to the Irrational Games podcast)
Three moves ahead(Strategic gaming good frequent podcast)

Not gaming:
99% invisible(great podcast about design, usually the architecture)
Dan Carlin's Hardcore History(super infrequent and super long, really great story teller)
Freakenomics Radio(Good, but I don't know if I love the economist mindset)
This American Life(Human interest stories, they've done some neat Journalism too)
Radiolab(This American Life, as Science)
Ideas from CBC Radio(From CBC Radio1 highlights from the program about arts and science)
The Skeptics Guide to the Universe(Good weekly skeptical news)
Point of Inquiry(Good podcasts, chats with skeptical folks)
Quirks And Quarks CBC ( Science news, fun)
Real Time with Bill Maher ( I like his talk show, the podcast is the talk show)
Startalk Radio with Neil DeGrasse Tyson( So good! listen to the backlog, fantastic)
The Bugle ( Hilarious news with John Hodgman and Andy Saltzmen)
The Nerdist(Very frequent, chats with comedians and other tv/movie folk, interesting chats about process)
WTF with Marc Marion(Just started, seems like The Nerdist's more provocative brother)

TGS (The game station) podcast is really good
I also enjoy the Rooster Teeth podcast.

Both stemmed from youtube groups but great none the less.

I am going to second Roguelike Radio. If you are a fan of Roguelikes it is pretty good. I also listen to Giantbombcast and just started with idle thumbs, and three moves ahead backlog. ungaming related, I also watch the new podcast over on Tested.com with Adam Savage. They dont have a name and pretty much just talk about crazy stuff, like personal submarines, Tintype photography, and Adam's life sized Trex skull he just got.

I listened to the IGN Gamescoop podcast for like 2 years, then the UK one came out and I listened to that for a year or so, then I sort of just stopped listening to them. I liked the UK one slightly less than the US one, but the UK one was a bit more informative.

Giant Bombcast = Hands down the best gaming podcast

Hands are not down on this. I would take a new Life Well Wasted, Idle Thumbs or Playable Character before a new Bombcast.

Though their E3 weeks are magical.

I just listened to two episodes of A Life Well Wasted and I loved it. Mainly because it was something different and the music and editing was great. I wouldn't say it is better than Bombscast but it is something different.

I've listened to all Roguelike Radio, had some mixed feelings about 8-bits and pieces, only the one with Craig Stern was great, but mainly because of the guess and the game they've talked about, I will definitely check out some of those posted here, as I start to like podcasts more and more.

8-4 Play is probably my favorite podcast! Most of the talk is about things and games that interest me, and I think that their perspective is a bit more appealing than that of a journalism podcast.

I listened to the first handful of Insert Credit podcasts, and I like the 6 minutes per topic -> 10 topics layout. I don't care for the host as he just tends to say things I think are dumb and not funny.

Other than that, I listen to Infinite Ammo from time to time when there are new ones or older gems. I tried Red Sun Gamer since I am familiar with some of the people, but it's a little too rambly for me.

8-4 is good. I'm attracted to the girl.

It's nice to get semi-dev perspective. That's why I like Tim: the showrunner - not the host - of Insert Credits. He knows a little more about design than the average writer.

i don't think i've ever listened to a podcast, even the ones i've been on (mainly dragonmaw's short-lived one) or the ones that have reviewed my games. i just can't stand listening to audio, really. i also have never been able to sit through even a chapter of an audiobook, it's just too boring

i think i just don't like the audio media. i like text and i like video, but i don't like audio
