I may end up there in the fall. This is due to some scholarships allowing me to afford the intense prices  Hand Money Left

Opinions? Any graduates on here?

DISCUSS.  Cool

EDIT: Thought I'd mention that I would be going the programming and computer science route. No game design degrees in this thread.

I went to a digipen summer camp when I was 11 and had the worst time of my life

 Beer!

The only good thing was the arcade machines that didn't need quarters for credit.

I heard that it's like 99% men. If you enjoy the company of women, either as friends or romantic partners, that might be an issue for you!

Ah, Derek, why...

Have a romantic partner of four years, but still...that could be too many dudes.

Since this is a serious decision for you, I wanted to look up a more accurate figure. Got this:

http://www.collegeview.com/schools/digipen-institute-of-technology/

85% Men, 15% Women

That is still a lot of dudes.

That's actually not as bad as I would have assumed (strong stereotyping, probably  Who, Me?)

But eh, I'll be 21 by the time I start. There has to be other ways to meet people in the area, but I totally see your point.

To be honest that's actually better than the CS program at UIUC where I went.

But imagine your CS program was your entire college. That's a much different scenario.

Yeah, just something to consider.

Well, is the main focus of the thing learning awesome things or look at women?

You have a girlfriend, yes? All the more reason to go. After being in the "sausage house" for a while (considering you dislike or do not want to experiment with it), you can return to your girl and do what couples do in their private moments with more intensity, passion and all the romantic things romances have written.

This kind of consideration baffles me. You wanna go, go. The absence of women should only be a consideration if you:
Are a single on the lookout
Will be closed in a limited space for a few years
Don't have hands to whack

It's not about ogling women, and yes, the main point is to learn and build stuff. That said, if you're paying for higher education you may as well know everything about it. I don't think it's a good idea to pick a place you'll be spending four years of your life based purely on the curriculum.

Ok, but lack of women is not a valid point, in my opinion. It's not a boarding school, right? I'd prefer quality, and the guy already has a lady, so...

Well, it was my opinion. I'll return to my corner.

What Derek is skirting around/hinting at is that there are a lot of neckbeard fedora misogynists at Digipen. A LOT of them. That's why there are so few women.

Digipen is probably the best school to go to if you want to get a job in gaming but it's also extremely rigorous. Expect to be so busy you have no time for anything at all. Especially Freshman year.

This sounds like par for the course for game education and probably for the industry itself. My graduating class at the Guildhall was like 13% women.

Also credits will not transfer from Digipen to public schools. So if you decide halfway through you don't like the program or a scholarship gets revoked, then you basically need to start from scratch. My first job in college I took over for a guy who went to Digipen for 2 years in the CS program but could not afford it anymore. After a year at Central Washington University he had to drop out of school because nothing transferred over and he essentially would need another 3 years of school to graduate Sad
