Yeah, that second image of the dancer looks much better. Not only the breasts, but her face doesn't look so childishly innocent, and white hair tends to not be associated with children. She clearly looks like a stylized adult there.
The promise of intelligently designed dungeons sounds fun. Maybe I'll look for one of the earlier games when I finish the ones I'm playing now.

Here's one of the maps from the first game: I am sure most people who know of the game know this but you actually have to draw your map out on the touch screen.

I wonder if people would interpret the primary dancer image as still being a 12 year old if it had larger breasts...
You wonder if people would interpret an image differently were it drawn differently? I mean, this is a stupid derail, but it's hard to defend it on purely stylistic terms when the rest of the females are drawn wearing clothes and being visibly more adult. It's obvious that they put a loli in a harem concubine outfit the game, it's not that big a deal, some people just think that sort of stuff is pandering and unfortunate.

I always wanted to try one of these, partly because the colorful look is so enticing. How accessible is it for a dungeon crawler?
Difficult but relatively accessible as a game. Most mechanics are pretty straightforward, GUI is simple, character building decisions can be reset, no need to study GameFAQs for hours before starting out.

this series is ok as far as wizardry clones are concerned but i could really do with less lolis
loli's have ruined japanese shmups and jrpgs too. well not ruined, but i preferred when we shot enemies with SPACE SHIPS and fought dragons with ARMORED KNIGHTS, not doing both of those things as a little girl anyway, i haven't played the etrian odyssey series yet, but i plan to. my sister let me borrow her ds indefinitely two months ago (she has 3 of them), so i've been going through a bunch of ds games for the first time, such as the ff4 remake. today i started dq9. etrian odyssey 1-3 are on the list of games i intend to play before returning her ds @teegee - "the world ends with you" is also on that list

look japan, plaid skirts are probably among my top 5 favorite things.
however how come 2 of your characters for that dungeon crawler game are little girls wearing them and apparently not much else
those designs are all pretty awkward except maybe the archer

Eh, I don't know. The character designs being so wacky and unrealistic for a group of people going through a dungeon filled with powerful monsters is something I actually enjoy, personally.

i don't mind wacky and unrealistic designs at all. but little girls are not exactly "wacky" so much as "generic"
if you want wacky, actually do wacky. giant stuffed lizards. living shapes. a baby's ghost. living teacups. a statue of abraham lincoln. anything but little girls

i find it HILARIOUS that you guys are nagging about the ANIMU GIRLS
the series has far deeper problems like the horrible exploits and terrible balancing of grinding gameplay

Wow What A Big Deal
you guys could at least enjoy the amazing music by yuzo koshiro as it's good enough to cover The Shames Of Showing 5 Year Olds In Armor

it's because lolis sell like wildfire over in jap, they're all secretly paedophiles, look at touhou, carpe fulgur and the atelier series
i know some of you secretly love lolis too, don't deny it, beneath the mature, sophisticated facade where you seem to love talking about the intricacies of drinking fucking tea, there's a lonely weaboo man jacking it to his animu waifu pillow
related to the discussion though, the series looks interesting, might pick it up, which one should i start with?
