http://www.chud.com/94534/surely-the-shadows-of-the-colossus-movie-wont-be-found-footage/I was a bit disappointed when Gore Verbinski's Bioshock adaptation got canned and I have the feeling this will suffer the same fate. Also, like the article says, the screenwriter is going to have to come up with a lot of shit not in the game to fill out a 90+ minutes movie narrative. I suspect they'll just use the setting and huge lumbering colossi as a backdrop to tell whatever story they feel like.

Should've had Bay direct it, so he could blow up the colossi and piss off all gamers.

That would be fantastic if the movie had a UI overlay through the whole thing.
It would still be terrible, but it could at least be hilarious.

The movie should just be a stream of someone playing the game.
Speaking of which, I need to play the game someday or another...

A big part of the game was the fact that Wander is mostly isolated (except for Agro) in his quest to take down the colossi. I think a movie adaption could work if they kept the focus primarily on Wander's survival against the wilderness, the emotional impact of being isolated and his bond with Agro. I think they could do without him fighting all the Colossi and just have him take on 3 or so, keeping the story mostly a "man versus nature" and a "man versus himself" tale.

It won't translate. At all. Ueda crafted the whole story and themes around the interactions between the characters and environments brought about through gameplay. Taking away the element of interaction is taking away the very thing that made it an excellent experience in the first place. How am I expected to feel the same connection to Agro when I'm not the one traversing the world with him? How am I supposed to face that same guilt and moral struggle of killing the colossi if I'm not the one carrying out the task?
Books can make decent adaptations, because it's simply adding visual and audio elements to an existing story. Yes, the language can be tarnished in translation, but it's not nearly as horrible as taking the interactivity away from a game as defined by it as Team Ico's.

Books can make decent adaptations, because it's simply adding visual and audio elements to an existing story. I agree with what you said overall, I think that the games do a sufficient job of conveying the original vision. Any other media surrounding Team Ico games simply supplement the world and universe. I enjoyed the Ico novel. I don't think it was great or can really be compared to the game, but it was nice to see a different take on the story. I like the Ico setting and characters. The book was enjoyable. That's probably what I would say if I was asked. I can't really see the SotC film happening. It seems like it'd be super expensive to make CG wise, and I can't really imagine it being in a film. Part of the beauty of the game was the fact that it was a game. The thrill of taking down the colossi is the highlight of the game, as well as being able to explore on your horse. I'm definitely interested in seeing where this goes and hearing more about it.

i bet they make the soldier dudes from the last bits part of the main plot or something like that. pretty much every character that talks at all will probably be a lot more involved in what happens than in the game. (the ancient ghost things, the soldier dudes, backstory with the princess, etc.) either that or it'll be completely different.

Reports of colossi wreaking havoc in cities across the world finds a young boy discovering his late fathers scientific research into myths of ancient giants, the colossi. From there, the boy must travel to Egypt and finish what his father started in order to restore peace to the world and put the colossi back to sleep.

There will be slow motion stabbing scenes, lots of them, and a montage of Wander suiting up.
Agro will also be renamed something like Arthur or Pete. Maybe not Pete.
Mono will be renamed to Mandy, she'll chew bubblegum.
Without spoiling anything *that part* will have Aerosmith's song about not missing anything over it.

I can only hope they make the framerate drop during insane scenes as a homage to the game running on the PS2.
