Getting cut scenes as a reward is kind of nice. I remember loving the cut scenes in diablo 2. But on the other hand, it's also a cheap trick to make you play. So I guess if it's done in small portions and "good taste" then it adds to the game.
If you mostly play the game to see the next cut scene, which is about every 5 minutes or so, then the game turns into a hybrid between a movie and a game and becomes inferior to both medioms.
Though, playing game with "cheap addicting tricks" is also enjoyable. Sometimes I just love stashing treasures and equipment in a game.
Oh yea, and I remember watching the intro was kind of a big deal in the past. You would expect an intro from a game, these days I am not so excited about CG or "GPU" intros in a game. Because some of the games just use that as cheap dirty tricks to attract players, and some times it's too obvious that it looks silly. For example ME3.
Hope I didn't diverge too much from the subject.
