Hey TIG,

Last week we launched a new video series over on PikiGeek.com in which we take a look at the murky world of Xbox Live Indie Games. The series aims to show off some of the quality games and more original concepts that may have been submerged beneath Minecraft clones, and well... a surprising amount of really really creepy games.

If you'd like to watch the first episode, you can do so here:

http://www.pikigeek.com/2012/05/24/indiecent-exposure-dlc-quest/

That episode shines the spotlight on DLC Quest and features an interview with its developer, Ben Kane, who talks about the development process and why he thinks DLC Quest managed to become so popular.

I'd be very happy to hear what you think of the episode, but I've posted here because I would really like to get involved with the XBLIG community directly and I'm hoping that some of you would be interested in seeing your game featured on Indiecent Exposure. This doesn't necessarily have to involve an interview, but I do want to try and talk with the developers behind the games that I feature and make sure that I do them justice.

If you would like me to take a look at your Xbox Live Indie game, or would like to suggest a game that needs more attention, please let me know in this thread or send me an email at: cbratt90 (at) gmail.com

Thanks!

The real problem with XBLIG is that you can never play them offline, which means you have to be logged in constantly to play them -- kind of a hassle for those people who only hook up the old XBOX to download things (there's more of them than you think)

really? Is that true for all XBL games that you buy digitally or just XBLIG?

I've never owned an xbox, always one of those thing I plan to get around to..

XBLA games don't have this problem, I don't know about games on demand but I think it's just XBLIG. I can't imagine why you need to be logged in to play them, you just arbitrarily do.
There's some great stuff on XBLIG (games like Dead Pixels and Escape Goat) but it's tiring trying to find it when there's such a huge volume of absolute toss on there and no way of seeing more than 5 titles on screen at once.
Anyway I've been wanting to find some more actually decent titles on the service, so I'm sure I'll look into this later on. Sounds good.

Yeah, it's just XBLIGs, but it only checks when the game starts, you don't have to be connected the entire time.

The reason they do this is because the indie games aren't looked at by any ratings boards or anything.  The only way they can be sold in some markets is if they are classified as "unrated online interaction."

anyway I love xblig lookin forward to more videos

Yeh it's frustrating that you do always need to be online to play XBLIGs. My internet connection at university can be pretty unstable and this has led to disconnects and lost progress in several games.

I believe the reason for the always online requirement is to avoid charges from the ESRB, by classifying the game as "online-only".

Oh and if you're interested, there's a new episode that looks at a tactical turn-based game called Miasma 2. It's pretty good!

Always open to suggestions for future games!
