Yes, I was rather bemused to buy an indie bundle, launch Bastion and be greeted by a giant Warner Bros. logo.  Shocked

By the way, what did they need a publisher for? They funded the game themselves and it is only distributed electronically as far as I know (Steam and Chrome Apps). Promotion? I doubt they needed it.

Wouldn't they be able to put the game there themselves? I'm not sure how XBLA works but I thought it's pretty much like Steam.

Ok i had the time to test the linux version of all the games.

My setup is Archlinux 64bit on AMD64 Athlon X2 + Geforce 8400GS

THE RESULTS:

Psychonauts: it crashes randomly on cutscenes, framerate drops in some areas Outraged
Amnesia: it works, merely playable on minimum resolution/quality Shrug
Limbo: WINE (wtf?) crashes instantly Lips Sealed
Bastion: unacceptable framerate even on minimum resolution (MONO wtf?) Facepalm
SwordAndSorcery: it works great, at least  Hand Thumbs Up Left

Sidenote: THE LINUX INSTALLER FROM HELL

What's the point in packaging games in that GOD AWFUL nixstaller?
I have to:
-unpack an 1 GB archive file just to obtain the installer setup
-launch the setup that explodes gigabytes into my tmp folder, blowing it away
-the installer proceeds to copy from /tmp into my folder of choice.

I have to waste an amount of HD space that's 4/5 TIMES
the size of the original package, just to install the damn thing.  Facepalm

In my dreams, uncompressing a TAR.GZ should get me straight
into the game by entering the directory and launching the startup script.

Not a good overall experience for Linux users, isn't it?

Huh, then I think I'll pass. I thought Bastion for Linux was the Chrome NaCl version, but apparently it runs through mono? The Chrome version plays flawlessly on my Archlinux.

only hipsters care if a game is indie or not. I just care if the game is good or not good, I don't give a fuck about anything else.
I don't think the complaint people are airing is about the quality of the games, but about the name of the bundle. If the bundle was called the Mid-Sized Selfsufficient Studio Bundle then there would be no complaints.

It's indie in some aspects and not in others. It's not indie enough for tigsource, though.
Every single game they have made up until Double Fine Adventure has been publisher funded. I don't care what Derek says that's just not indie.

My take is that HIB should probably drop the humble indie pretence, and concentrate on providing high quality bundles no matter the source.

Agreed. When there is a picture with a hungry beggar guy for games that in their majority have been either comecrially sucesful or funded by a large corporation, it makes me feel the last thing this bundle is is humble. At least the other bundles have more obscure games by other indies. This excludes 1C tho haha, who basically had 2 bundles for themselves.

You're all talking as if "indie game" hadn't already been a marketing buzzword for years.

Getting on XBLA without a publisher is next to impossible these days. They have a very limited amount of slots.

Agreed that the name of the bundle doesn't really fit its profile anymore. It's neither indie nor humble. It's not that I really care for "indieness" of any given game. They should however, if they want to continue to ride the indie wave to sell their product.

I guess I can understand the Limbo devs using Wine if they started out on XBLA. Like, if the alternative would be to rewrite the engine completely. It would be interesting to see the HIB cross-platform requirements, if they have any special cases for such things or whatnot.

I've never really expected to get all the games to run off the bat, mainly because of my wonky Intel graphics drivers (Mint 12 64-bit). Limbo seems to work all right so far. Sword & Sworcery gives me a kernel panic. Crazy

They should replace that less than a dollar image with this.

I had to hot-link the image so I hope it worked.

In all these HiB threads, I spend my time telling how they've been sold out to sequoia management venture capital, and then Tigsource spends it's time forgetting and acting like they're still the pinnacle of indie

If something is sold as a Linux game, you wouldn't expect it to work properly under Linux? And why do you insist on being such a jerk/moron most of the time?
