apparently the roman emperor gave this helmet to henry viii  Shocked
Maximillian I of the Holy Roman Empire actually (huge difference). Good find though.

Now I wonder how many of D* Souls' weirder armors are in fact based on actual historical garb lol.

Tons of cool armors here: http://ironchefsworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=4623.0

I'd bet that From Software looked at quite a few of these.

he was the holy roman emperor no? wikipedia proves me right! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximilian_I,_Holy_Roman_Emperor

Quote from: wikipedia
Maximilian also gave a bizarre jousting helmet as a gift to King Henry VIII – the helmet's visor featured a human face, with eyes, nose and a grinning mouth, and was modeled after the appearance of Maximilian himself.

but yeah, sudden urge to play a character wearing this helmet now

edit: i chuckled at the ironchefs being in the url. awesome stuf though, derek!

yeah i was just being pedantic and pointing out the holy roman empire isn't the same thing as the roman empire. Tongue

@derek:
well most of the "normal" armor sets in the souls games are relatively closely modeled on real medieval armor afaik which also makes them look different from typical fantasy game armor (meaning shit like this)

but yeah, they probably drew on ceremonial armor a lot for the weird sets.

... Please tell me codpieces have some purpose beyond what they appear to be used for.

No...

They really don't.  Medieval and Renaissance folk really took pride in having mock-boners. ~History 101

Argh, Gwyn... he's pretty tough. Seems so doable and yet... he's relentless with his attacks so it's hard to find time to heal when I need to.

Is every one of his attacks parryable or only a few? Or one? I haven't been able to do it consistently enough.

Suddenly game's become really hard.
