TIGJAM Australia

That's right, there's a TIGJam coming to Australia, and it'll be on next month from
July 13th to July 15th!

It should be noted that the venue will be open from about 5:30PM, and the jam will start at 7PM. It'd probably be wise to turn up before it starts if you want to work on a team.

Where?
It's being hosted at Inspire9, which is a rad creative space that's literally just outside Richmond Station. It'll also be open for the whole weekend, so you don't have to worry about accommodation (although, you will need to bring a sleeping bag and be cool with sleeping in a soundproof room on a wooden floor).

As far as getting there goes, it's one train stop away from Flinders Street station (ie. just a few minutes via train), and as I said earlier, it's just outside the train station in Richmond.

Registration
Did I mention it's 100% free? While it costs nothing to attend, there are limited spaces available (we want everyone to fit in comfortably, of course), so you will need to register. You are welcome to turn up, of course, but you will need to register as a jammer if you do intend on staying for the majority of the weekend (and if you're making a game, obviously).

You can register via the Eventbrite Page.

There's already a lot of interest building over here locally, so I figured it'd be wise to advertise it here as well. I'm totally unsure if there'd be any interest interstate (or overseas  Shrug), but hey, it doesn't hurt to ask.

If there are any questions, feel free to message me on Twitter, or just reply below. I hope to see you guys there!

We actually organised the date around university holidays, so it's smack dab in the middle of the holidays at pretty much most of the IT universities (at least in Melbourne).

If it turns out the date is actually not in holidays at whatever university you go to No No NO, let us know so we can plan the next one accordingly Grin

Haha it is in the middle of holidays (I'm at monash) but it's also in a stretch when I'm over in NZ. Damnit.

Either way, keen to see more stuff happening here so I hope this one goes well and another happens that I can attend.

Well I've signed myself up, should be interesting. I'd like to do a group game, we'll see what happens on the day, but what tools do people use? I'm a linux programing guy, new to game making, so pygame will probably be my weapon of choice.

People seem to use all sorts of engines like Unity, Game Maker, XNA, UDK...  someone even made a HTML-based web game at the last Ludum Dare that was in Melbourne.  Can't say I've seen many Linux developers at these things before, but the more the better :D

I don't see why not, though you might have to ask the organisers if they need a parental consent form for minors or something.

I've never finished a game either and I'm going. Though I have been programming for 15 years so I should be able to get something simple working. At the very least you can help someone by slapping up some jpegs and sprites.

Where's richmond??? It's right in the centre of melbourne, one train stop from flinders st.

one train stop from flinders st.
on the eastern side, can get to it on Belgrave/Lilydale, Glen Waverley, Frankston, Pakenham and Alamain lines. If you're coming from the west or the north you'll have to get a train to the city and then one of any of those lines one stop out.

Still unable to come Sad
