I know Terry has a very high opinion of that game. I've not played it, but have read the story; not my favourite story by H.E., to be sure, but solid enough. Should go and play it some time.

And would you have links to other stories by the author increpare, if you'd be so kind to share with us.

Alas no, I read them IRL; terry lent me a book...so if you want it, you'll have to ask him (he's notoriously litigious I think; you're probably going to get a cease and desist order from his lawyers any day now for linking to that story )

I've just read it. It was really interesting to say the least. I'll have to find some of his other works.
I wonder. Could you make a game where you were the computer, trapped forever with nothing to do but mess with some human playthings? Would certainly be a new take on the Petz style game.

Erm...it already exists (more seriously, one could point to the sims, or any god games, as examples of this sort of stuff I think...unless you had something more particular in mind?)

A mind forever voyaging?

Thanks Melly. I wanted to read this for some time, since I played the game. It's good.
As for the game, it's a really good idea, but I have no idea how it would be.

A mind forever voyaging? That's what came to mind for me too. I just played it recently (it was very hard to get working on modern computers).

Yeah, I absolutely love this game One of my all time favorites, actually - the short story was interesting, but for me only as the source material for the game. I've read a few of Harlan Ellison's short stories; my favorite by far is " "Repent, Harlequin!" Said the Ticktockman".

That was pretty good. Gotta say it'd be much better as a full length novel though, there certainly is enough concept behind it to support it. Still haven't played the game though. I've been meaning to for a long time now.

I guess a novel could go into more detail about each character, much like the game does. Including AM's distorted psyque.

Another IHNMAIMS themed game would be cool. I played through one character's scenario in the adventure game recently, and it's pretty disturbing/fun how AM just messes with you.
