So, this just launched. Anyone else pick it up? http://therealtexasgame.com/I'm not very far in yet, but what I've seen so far is really inspired. Most definitely worth a look.

haven't played it myself, but i've been hearing good things about it -- podunkian was playing it yesterday in irc and telling us how great/weird it is, and offal already wrote a guest front page post about it (which i need to read and edit before posting)

Looks absolutely amazing, my time/money ratio is currently garbage so I'm curious if the whole plot is as quality the rest of the game before buying it.

I've played for about an hour and have done a couple quest type things, a lot of exploring, and bought some tnt and camo pants. It's been pretty enjoyable so far and I'm really digging the music.

I've defeated the wizard! Now to find his wand.
There was a pile of rubble in the basement of the castle, so I had the bright idea to dynamite it.
It's a really good thing that space and time like me so much.

Just lost a half hour of progress, be wary when saving + quitting.
Edit: Happened again, game needs a dedicated save function so I'm sure that it saves, or I can't play for now.

Yougiedeggs there is a known bug with the autosave (patch forthcoming) near after where you are, it sounds like you might have been affected. If so I am really sorry. =( Can you please contact me [email protected] and I'll check your save file for you. Again I'm really sorry about this!

I enjoy the game so much that I brute forced my way past that spot, seems like it's saving now. Don't know if my save will be useful now, but I'll send it over anyway.

I'm really enjoying this game, but I've seen at least one bug.
SPOILERS!
Something that was definitely a bug - after you give Gladys the first radish, a cutscene plays and the tiki-man gives you a key. Well, on returning to the same room after much exploring (and dying), after passing a certain point in the spiral the same cutscene played again, and now I have an extra key on the ground. Odd.
Oh yeah, and I may have accidentally sequence-broke - I got into the mine before I had taken care of Charles or the Wizard, and didn't realize until I got the wand and the witch-lady told me to zap the machines. I somehow managed to get two DIE DIE DIE tickets and enter the mine by accident. I'm now thinking maybe I was only supposed to find one ticket, and the other one is just taking up space in my inventory?

The combat is poor. Simplistic (though this may change later in the game), and lacking in visual/aural feedback. Sometimes you're attacked immediately upon entering a screen. Other times large objects block your view of nearby enemies.
It's pretty buggy- I've run into a minor bug, a major one, and two game-breakers so far. But this was all in 1.0, and AFAIK most known bugs have been fixed in the patch.
Inventory management is a pain, thanks to the interface.
Apart from all that, it's a good game that compels satisfying exploration of nuanced environments. Fantastic quirky soundtrack and a unique theme too.

I bought it, but I'm afraid it will expire before I can get my laptop back. Guess I'll have to download it onto a USB drive.

Is anyone else playing it? I've played it for a few hours and I like it, though it's vastly different from what I expected. So far I've mostly been exploring, doing simple quests for lots of folks in the town, getting some backstory, and only a tiny bit of basic combat. I'm not exactly disappointed, but so far it feels more limited than I thought it would concerning the gameplay and size of the world. I wonder if that's going to change as I can't really judge how far into the game I am. All in all, though, at the very least it's charming

I'm very, very near the end but I just stopped playing because I found a puzzle annoying. A shame, I'm sure I'll get back to it some day.
