Just go and try it. Some people love it and get energized by the busy atmosphere, some can't stand distractions and limited space. I personally enjoy it from time to time, when I need to focus on something specific and am afraid I would get too lazy working from home. Though, I would recommend finding some silent cameral cafe designed with working people in mind rather than a huge franchise like Starbucks.

If you have one. Though for me the appeal of the cafe is the people. Indie dev can really get lonely and working from cafe is a nice substitute of a proper office.

If you have one.
and if it's spring or summer (warm autumn can work too). but yeah, doesn't change anything about the fact that it's my favorite work enviroment for computer shit.

i don't have a garden myself but my family has a small house in the country (built by my grandparents) and when i go to visit them there, that's usually when i'm most productive. i guess lack of internet connection helps too lol

My girlfriend's parents have a country house with a garden too. I admit it can be a pretty awesome place to work. The mix of fresh air and singing birds does amazing things to one's brain.

As for cafes, we've found one that has a whole floor with separate rooms arranged like offices for people to work, have meetings or play board games. They also serve cheap lunches which is quite handy. We even took a pic there with the writers during one of the co-working sessions.

Total hipsterdom.

I don't have a laptop and bringing my desktop tower and monitor or 27" iMac to a coffee shop isn't feasible, but I use a tablet outside on my deck all the time and prefer it to working indoors.  Coffee shops are alright, but it can get distracting if there are a lot of people.

I love programming in coffee shops (not Starbucks though. I hate Starbucks). I haven't in a while since I moved over from my netbook to my desktop as my main development machine, but I'll probably go back to coffee shops when I get a new laptop. My favorite "sit and work" drink is a large Americano with a bit of half&half.

I have a fat desktop, so coffeeshop programming is out of the question.

Starbucks is getting tired of coffeeshop authors and hipsters wasting time there.

That's because Starbucks sucks. Find a nice local coffee shop with good coffee and good atmosphere. Starbucks has shitty coffee and shitty atmosphere.
