"Since passing the Senate today, the R18+ legislation has become law."

It's about fucking time. Now, instead of pirating banned games, I can pirate R18+ games.

Ah, Aussies can join the real men.

What about movies? Are R18+ allowed in there or only games were banned?

Games have been the only exception to an R18+ rating for a long time. The justification has been that violent video games will put you into a trance that causes you to kill as many people as possible. It is a well-known fact that the perpetrator of the Port Arthur massacre in 1996 played Counter-Strike for years before undertaking his rampage.

Yeah, I'd much rather have people take a stand against violence in media than sexuality in media.

The hypocrisy in that stance is ridiculous. Ah, politicians... Gotta love them.

The bad thing with Australia allowing R18+ ratings is that some higher end MA15+ games will be moved up to the adult category... Sucks to be me.

Is that enforced at all though? I can't imagine it actually being a practical hindrance to someone wanting to play a video game rated above their age.

Well, no, not really, if my parents would let me I would really have no problem obtaining a copy of an R rated game. The worst I have played is proberly "Gear of War", which, in reality, isn't that bad. Come to think of it, I think I played GTA or whatever at a friend's once... Didn't really appeal to my sense of "fun". Anyhow, I don't really play those type of games anymore, most (3/4) of the games I play now are indie.

Which reminds me, my father purchased me "Halo 2" at the age of 8 or something... So that just supports what you said Concerned

I always felt it a bit weird my 12 year old self walked out a store with a copy of Manhunt in the UK, but no one in Australia could.

Australian's now get to look forward to the next 50 Cent (Fiddy sent) game, UNCUT.
