apparently box2d doesn't like when you create joints at the same time as it is working

Yeah. There's actually a load of asserts to make sure you don't do that, but they're all disabled in flash for performance. Sometimes you can get away with it, but the engine wasn't designed for any changes to be made during a step.

With jBox2D? Maybe the guy didn't port them over... Or maybe he ported an older version and hasn't updated everything - all kinds of tweaks, extra features and optimizations were added to box2d later (and are still being added). One of the reasons I like Farseer (the C# version) - it has loads of extra features like water buoyancy and convex hull algorithms

I thought it would be fun to make a simple tile-based fluid simulation. edit: can't tell if this is better or worse. edit: oh sweet I think it works now

I thought it would be fun to make a simple tile-based fluid simulation. Haha, that's pretty cool! Reminded me a little of Conway's Game of Life...

A bug with my collision detection system made all the hitboxes move 16 pixels away from the images. I tried to fix this with a hack but it made all the blocks fly away when you touch them...

One where you have to escape a slowly flooding dungeon and you can open locks or dig holes through to the next level down to buy yourself some time but in doing so risk cutting off an escape path as you can only spend a limited number of turns in flooded tiles before drowning and risk getting carried further down into the dungeon by the current.
