Hi, all! Time to get greased up for a new a steampunk-ish MMO playable in about a month (mid-July)! Mechanist Games is an indie game developer and we're now heading towards the Alpha Test stage for our first title, City of Steam. Note that I use "steampunk-ish" instead of straight up "steampunk"... Well, admittedly it's not your typical steampunk visual style. We prefer to call it “industrial fantasy”, in view of the fact that it's more of a hybrid of magic and steampunk aspects.

Basically we encourage you to sign up to our newsletters on http://www.cityofsteam.com/get_email to get priority for an alpha key in addition to following the latest updates about the game. We will also do key giveaways on partner sites and forums when the test is nearing its starting dates for sure.

City of Steam Brief Profile
Created in Unity 3D (with copious in-house tools, too) and lightweight enough to be accessible from your browser, City of Steam is set in a world of clock- and steamworks, pipes, gears, boilers, bridges, tunnels and towering spires, all suffering from years of neglect and abandonment. Nexus, a metropolitan city in decline, is set at the centre of a colossal mechanical world, the World Machine. This is where players set out to explore the world.

As you can see, the world itself is a machine, and flat to boot. The elemental gears (the Steam, Coal, Rust and Oil Spokes) are forever rotating around the Major Plate – the core of the giant machine. Each carries a season with them to the areas they pass by; i.e., the Steam Spoke carries springs to the regions it passes by, and so on.

Check out our gameplay trailer on Youtube:

We'd be more than happy to read your input and answer any questions you may have, so post away!

Sorry. You have to admit it does look really suspicious when someone post a game that already has a thread as their first post. Smiley

Not really if they're not linking to any other sites than legit ones.
Besides, if you'd just done a small check you'd see that there is a user named CoS_Dorian on the CoS forum posting announcements occationally.

Ah, sorry. I had no idea that CrazyEthan had posted on this before you guys told me. Yes, I work with CrazyEthan. Be assured that this is unintended double post. Thanks for reminding me that.

That being said, I'd be glad to answer all input for us in CrazyEthan's thread, wherein I'll also post the recentest updates on City of Steam.

Hmm, a good question, but hard to explain in a few words. Maybe our new trailer could enlighten you a little on it? It's on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRR6ENSr780&lc=VfYAHwe_J8kC37L74hp-0V-oL5Be75ZoaICCvchS6Zw&lch

We have a full plan of contents for casual, hardcore and high-level players. There will be story-driven main quests, racial and class quests, daily in-game quests and events. We will also have PvP contents - it will be beyond awesome! Player rankings in the PvP arena  will have in-game consequences: watch as NPCs kneel to the PvP King! Sure there also will be other social elements that are just vital to MMOs.

If you have any suggestions on the gameplay contents, feel free to put forward to us.

The 3D animation is even more amazing. Click here for the animation (you may have to down load a small-sized Unity plug-in).
