I was rooting around the art/design forum, and I've found a lot of topics looking for audio tutorials, but I've found very little actually detailing audio programs. Would anybody here be willing to divulge information about the audio programs they use? I've always been vaguely interested in trying synthesizing.

(I'm looking for free ones, but don't let that stop you from posting. We have art and programming resource threads, but no music thread!)

are you looking for something different then the stickied  Art, Music, and Design Resource thread?

i use reason, audacity, and sfxr. if your interested in synthesizing i might recommend reaktor, but if youre interested in curddling your brains i recommend MAXMSP.

For programs (of all sorts), I think this is the thread you're looking for:
