Source Filmmaker is out officially in a private beta now too.  Since this is the last class, it seems that Valve is passing on its movie-making to the users.

I can't believe they kept that promise after all those years. Anyways this will be great if it is ever added to garry's mod.

And then marvel how they stomped all over their own brilliant design.

...

When TF2 was released, you could easily identify a class and their weapon (and thus, could make informed decisions in the game world). Now... it's one big clusterfuck where you can't tell anything apart anymore. That impacts gameplay.

Additionally, if you don't like it, there are vanilla TF2 servers that disallow loadouts. Want a more team oriented experience? tf2lobby.com can help. (Of course it's more competitive)

I had lots of trouble finding suitable Vanilla servers. Ones that didn't have 14 year old admins or weren't 24/7 dustbowl. Being that it's been a year since I've actually sat down and played I'm sure that has changed.

for once I agree with Core XII. the game was so good already, there wasn't a need to change it with those new weapons. It's a completely different game now, which is fine I guess. but not for me.

I think it's pretty shallow how many people have stopped playing TF2 purely for the fact that it is being exploited for money. Next time someone tells me they don't care about graphics so long as the game is fun, I'm going to tell them to play TF2.

Graphics vs aesthetics. TF2 was designed as it was to facilitate gameplay. Watch Valve's paper on the artistic choices in TF2 - And then marvel how they stomped all over their own brilliant design.

Additionally, you're dismissing the fact that there are as of writing about 150 weapons in the game. It's not just about aesthetics, but that you just can't play the game anymore. When TF2 was released, you could easily identify a class and their weapon (and thus, could make informed decisions in the game world). Now... it's one big clusterfuck where you can't tell anything apart anymore. That impacts gameplay.

You dingleberry, how hard is it to distinguish fire guy from explosion guy? Just admit that you hate money.

It does take some time to learn the characteristics of every weapon, but at least rocket launchers are still rocket launchers, etc.

On another note, the Pyrovision goggles are fabulous, and so is the new flamethrower, from what little I've seen of it so far. The new rocket launcher seems to me that it's overpowered against engineers, since you can just fire off three rockets and kill a sentry gun nearly instantly, even more easily than demos can. I hope they do something about that, maybe nerf the damage against buildings.

Source Filmmaker seems incredibly useful/huuuuuge.

I am very excited to see what people make and how it grows.

Theoretically speaking, a single engineer repairing his sentry should be able to stand his ground (sans sticky bombs) against a single enemy indefinitely.

I think supports all source games, right? I think the only thing is that you have to import the gamefiles.

Hoooooly crap, this Source Filmmaker is amazing. This tool could potentially change the entire game for cheap computer animation. Consider that TF2's free-to-play now, and combine this with free open source tools like Blender, and you have a hella cheap, all-in-one animation studio.

The update was a lot of fun. It looks like pyrovision materials can be embedded in maps or something because 2fort looks really different with the googles on, but most maps don't. It's still pretty crazy to be burning somebody up and have them laughing hysterically you while it happens. I got two of the new weapons from ash piles. Neato.

Yeah, it seems only official maps support Pyroland.  There's a discussion on TF2Maps.net trying to figure out how they did it.

Also if anyone's looking for a Level 99 Liquidator's Lid, trade me. Giggle

So apparently there's a config file with a whitelist of maps and any map you put in it will show the full pyro world. I wonder why they decided to limit it to official maps. Maybe there is a new flag or something in Hammer that will let custom map makers turn it on (i.e. without playing with a client configuration file). Perhaps it is to keep it from being used for maps which really don't work with it.

As for how they did it, there's no special magic. Are they looking for a hidden button in Hammer or something?
