AND THE WINNER IS:
VDZ - For The Colony!VDZ's entry was able to capture a cool battle theme melody in the short time allotted. For the Colony! has two sections that are very much the same except section A had the melody and section B does not. This gives the listener's ear a good rest before the whole thing loops back. The loop itself was done very well and even included pickup notes which smooths out the loop. I feel some entries did not fully understand what I mean by "loopable" (its a 30 second song, not an excerpt and should be treated as a whole song) but VDZ nailed it.
All of the tracks were great and everyone should be proud of their work. Hopefully everyone learned a little bit and made some friends along the way (just like a good RPG).
VDZ is now in charge of the next challenge (Number 10 or X) whenever he is ready. As someone who just hosted the contest with an unprecedented 14 entires I will suggest to him and all future hosts to keep the following things in mind:
-Keep the challenge simple and easy to understand
-Give everyone a good amount of time to do the contest
-Advertise the contest to keep new blood incoming
-Don't do a contest in the middle of a holiday
