Hi folks,

I'm a developer with 15 years professional experience... 6 years doing "AAA" (ugh) games, although I left the game industry in 2004. The list of my projects is here: http://newobj.net/games

My specialties are AI and games-as-systems - I'm into emergent gameplay, proceduralism, use of "smart" objects that create unexpected and interesting combinations of mechanics.

My two least favorite kinds of games are puzzle games (esp. puzzle platformer) and games which are narrative-heavy and ooze linearity.

I'm looking for an artist to collaborate with casually. I say casually because as a dad and someone who already works 50+ hours a week - this is not my primary endeavor. The last couple of years I was able to scratch out a couple little toy solo projects and that's fine. But I wanted to aim for something bigger and I think a partner will help with that. But casual means some weeks will be more productive than others, no hard feelings.

I actually don't have any strong feelings towards one type of game or another I'd like to make. I'm basically just looking for an easy going person with good art skills who's also seeking a casual collaboration. I'm happy to start from scratch in discussing what we will build.

I'm comfortable coding in HTML/JavaScript, Flash, Java, Ruby, C/C++ (tho I'd prefer not to) - so platform is totally open. If we want to make a standard PC game, I'm up for it,  iOS game, I'm up for it, browser-based "MMO", I'm up for it.

You can reach me at [email protected] or @newobject on twitter. Thanks!

I'm a rookie artist...I could do something, depending on what kind of art were going for here.

I highly doubt that a veteran programmer would need a rookie artist to help him.

Don't defile him, please. He needs a pro. He deserves a pro, he's a vet programmer. You wouldn't be able to serve him.
I stereotype you here, but I think I'm not in the wrong zone to believe my opinion. You proved it on one of your collab projects.
You can't handle the indie world yet. You're a type who likes to watch people do your work for you. That does not make man walk. That makes a man fall back, as it is a horrid practice, which loses you skill, and possibly respect.

You can call me a hypocrite, mainly because my pixel art's not great, but I don't watch people work. I do said work. The OP dominates such work, and therefore, should have a skilled artist help him.

To the OP, I wish you good luck on your search. You will find someone skilled, but, this man is not him.

Sounds interesting.  I don't exactly know what the scale is for pixel artists here, (though I'm sure it ranges) so I'll just put some stuff down and see what you think.

So yah.  Those are some nice bricks huh?

Wow, look at all that junk I slapped on here.

I'm loving those graveyard tiles :p

That pixel art's pretty good.
The FF sprite is.... eh, but the brick tiles look nice.

Yeah.  I mostly do platform Cave Story, but I've been trying to expand onto topdown.
