Spriter's Resource is an excellent place to get some good critique.  Most of the people there KNOW what they're doing and can give you the advice you need to succeed.
You're delusional.

I'm going to go ahead and sum this thread up quickly

Spriters Resource < Pixeljoint < Pixelation

I'd suggest posting around Pixeljoint, it's the best beginner zone for anyone.
I started there and now I'm a veteran.

Pixelation is usually for intermediate artists usually people who have drawn before in any other kind of medium.
So people don't actually have to teach you to draw, because thats what most arguments come down to.
A lot of it is based on do you know human proportions, shading, colour all that good stuff.

Start doodling on paper as much as you can, and do pixels in between.
Start small 16x16, get used to working in small pixel sizes then work up to large scale 32x32 - 64x64
Eventually you will begin to get the hang of particular techniques as AA and Selout and avoid such things as banding.

Politics in community are usually only bad when someone isn't willing to learn.

im too tired right now to do anything with you guys's advice but thanks!

This right here seems like a tell tale sign that you wont do well in any pixel community.
The response seems like your blowing off great advice because your lazy.

If your too lazy to check out two websites you are much too lazy to learn pixel art and do it well.
It takes patience to learn this medium, it's not easy.

Demo Reel 2012

Sit down and relax,
Keeping focus on your breath,
This may take a while.

Well I think that you should just do it.

Yep, he's right. The bottom line is that a community isn't required to start, just the motivation and dedication. The best advice you'll get is from your mistakes, don't rely on anyone else.

Anyone remember pixeltendo? Everyone's work looked exactly the same. I swear they all used the same palette.

Would you play a game you have never played before on the hardest difficulty?
I do this all the time. It can be pretty fun.

I've been working 18+ hour days on a film set and have basically been toggling between work and sleep. When I wrote that it was literally all I could do before passing out.

Now that I'm done though I plan to take Paul, moi, 1982 and r3d5's advice. I acquainted myself with the "basics" of pixelling through tutorials but am much more interested in developing a heterogenous style. I don't really expect to share anything too soon though as I prefer to develop in privacy.

Thanks, everyone

you should go to wayofthepixel, if you feel they are harsh just go to pixeljoint, or even better post an sprite in both sites, and you will get twice as critiques, and if you don't like one just stick to the other one.

if they didn't want you to play 'hard' the first time you played the game they wouldn't offer it as an option. i usually go with 'hard' the first time i play a game when it's a genre i'm good at (rpgs, strategy, etc.), and go with 'normal' or 'easy' if it's a genre i'm not that good at (fps, tps, etc.)
