pretty sure that eskimos visiting a hotter climate don't steal ice that someone put the work into cutting, shaping, packaging, shipping, etc., from a store

Maybe they don't, because they have a machine that can copy ice infinitely at close to no cost?

What if that's the reason there's an ice cap at the north pole??

I see a lot of lengthy replies below, so apologies for any duplication of what's already been said – I still have to reply.

Everyone posts, noone reads. You just have to interject & defend your honor.

So you won't mind if I ignore your bullsh—— Oh, I see the thread has disintegrated anyway. Good day.

New topic : How much of the $5 million will be spent on hookers and blow?  I'm thinking 85%.

@shig - Yeah, I'm starting to regret unlocking it. Yet again it goes nowhere. I thought I could de-notify to kind of 'bow out' of the conversation, but it doesn't seem to be the case. I'm going to lock it until it's out of KickStarter / until something happens. There's just no reason to keep this open.

It's terribly rude to lock a thread, by the way. It's not really yours after page five or so.

How do you figure? I should just keep the thread open so that people can keep posting things completely unrelated to the discussion at hand?

no, you should request of a mod that side-topics (such as the piracy side-topic) get split into their own topics

Go right ahead and lock it. There hasn't been anything of real worth for quite some time. Just the same grinding. You can unlock it after the Kickstarter is finished, but until then I really don't see anything happening.

They've actually cleared $5.2m now. Not sure when that happened, but damn, that's a lot of support.

another on-topic thought i had a few days ago:

if this fails, kickstarter is finished. the failure would be so spectacular that nobody would trust kickstarter projects ever again. they'll all be like "remember the ouya..."

In the inverse, if the Ouya actually comes out, it will validate Kickstarter in the eyes of the general public. If a project this ambitious and unlikely can actually come to fruition, then the sky's the limit.

Yeah, the Streisand Effect and stuff. Eres' solution is the best.

of course, but it's already sort of in a validated, working state -- i mean, a project like the ouya got 5 million in less than a week. so i think the change to kickstarter will be much more dramatic if it fails than if it succeeds. if it succeeds it might bring a little more attention to kickstarter, but if it fails it can kill the site. so if i were an owner of kickstarter i'd be terrified of it failing more than i'd be thrilled at the prospect of it succeeding

Heh, I already locked it before, so it's pretty much as powerful as it's gonna get.

@Richard Kain / Paul Eres - I'm not sure if a huge failure would stop KickStarter. You know going in your money's not safe. I'm pretty sure that they put that somewhere on the site - that the delivery of the product rests on the person or group making the KickStarter, not KickStarter themselves. In other words, people might get a lot more wary about it, but I think that KickStarter will proceed. It might get harder to fund products on KickStarter, which might mean that people will start putting up more finished products, since people aren't as 'throw-money-at-the-screen'-y.

And I messaged a mod about splitting the posts.
