So if i were an owner of kickstarter i'd be terrified of it failing more than i'd be thrilled at the prospect of it succeeding
Pretty much what SolarLune said. Legally, Kickstarter's ass is covered. The real consequences would be the public outcry, and the bad press and lack of faith that could result from the Ouya tanking. Kickstarter would mainly be in danger if everyone lost faith in it and stopped using or donating to Kickstarter. That's the real threat. And I suppose we should actually be thankful to all the nay-sayers and skeptics. Thanks to them, the bar for success on the Ouya has been dropped as low as humanly possible. As long as boxes get produced and shipped, most people will consider the Kickstarter for the Ouya a success.

I don't see the Ouya's unavoidable failure (as in living up to their promises -- I'm sure they will send a console of some specification to the backers at a much delayed date) as being spectacular enough to kill Kickstarter. It'll probably just slowly fade from public awareness once the initial hype dies down. That's usually how these things die. Not with a bang, but with a prolonged whimper.

@richard kain - of course, i know all that -- you don't think i've read the terms of service? i've run a kickstarter myself (which was successfully funded). that has nothing to do with what i said, i wasn't saying kickstarter would die because of lawsuits or something
@sig - come to think of it 'kool-aid' is actually a great metaphor for people who think the ouya will work out. if i'm a "naysayer" or "skeptic" then the other side are people who, as the expression goes, 'drank the kool-aid'

If I get this I'd probably root it and change this sound. It's not a dealbreaker or anything, but it's quite poor imo. At least I now know how I should pronounce the console's name. (they might have said it on their Kickstarter video, but I can't remember)

Same here, probably replace it with the boot-up sound from the PS1

Yeah, I'd either replace it with that or with the Dreamcast sound.

It'll probably just slowly fade from public awareness once the initial hype dies down. That's usually how these things die. Not with a bang, but with a prolonged whimper. Agreed on all this. Kickstarter's community of non-confrontational nerds with substantial disposable incomes won't raise much of a ruckus following the Ouya disappointment. In a way, the funding model also protects the site from serious fallout. Folks who support an ambitious project in its early stages that ends up falling short will be solely blamed for wasting their money, rather than the (successful) funding model or Kickstarter. At worst people will become leery of certain Kickstarter projects, which isn't a bad thing. So you won't mind if I ignore your bullsh—— Oh, I see the thread has disintegrated anyway. Good day.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8mgAP-tTF0#t=9sSome guy on SA said that if you tweak the speeds of this (the music and voice parts separately) it sounds just like the starting sound but I tried it and he's full of shit.

The voices are different, clearly. It's "Ah ya" in the DK video, and "Ooh ya" in the real start-up sound. It might have been cool if they did go with a retro (and legal) sample.

The voices are different, clearly. Unless they were digitally manipulated, clearly. Which is what the guy was saying, although I think he's wrong.

there is no way you can manipulate aahyah to oohyah, not even with formant filters or something, so it's bullshit.

It's a harmless joke, get over it. I wonder why the hell you need 4 million dollars to connect a tablet to a TV and a gamepad, but oh well... I also don't think $4 are required to develop the GUI for this console(they don't develop the OS, right?). How is that as a potshot

Toki, your prejudices need to be taken away:
There are multiple areas that you really have to cover to fully understand Human Element. Human Element is a world that takes place 35 years after an event has occurred, and that event is a zombie apocalypse. But this is not a game about zombies. They’re really just a catalyst to kick off these stories of human survival scenarios.
