Then again, there is this prophecy that has been passed down through generations about the one kickstarter project that'll show that kickstarter is a big fraud, everyone is constantly crossing their fingers everytime there is a new successful project.

That is the big worry, isn't it. But I seriously doubt it will happen in this case. There are just too many high-profile names attached to this project, and the company developing it. These are visible individuals, with a history of working within the game development industry in high-profile positions. If the Ouya turned out to be a scam, their reputations within the video game industry would be ruined.

Game development and publishing are well known for being an insular industry. Everyone in the industry knows everyone else. Trying to pull a con like this, with as much publicity as has been generated, would be career suicide for anyone involved.

It's still entirely possible that the entire effort will fall through. But I seriously doubt it will be because someone ran off with the cash.

with 4 million + bucks under the belt some can shit on the career;)

If it goes down you will only remember that woman's face. Everyone else won't even be known or blamed.

I pesonally would love to see a console you can fully access, open for the whole variety of developer minds, a place where gamers and devs meet. I am fine with the specs since I consider it to be a place for evolved refined oldschool-gaming. There is a lot to improve in that area since the jump to 3D-games came too early.

I don't think it's a scam, but I seriously doubt they will be able to deliver on even a fraction of their goals.

and none of these people are "high-profile" names. the only two names that are attached are Julie Uhrman and Yves Behar. Julie is obviously not a high profile name and Yves is just the owner of a design firm. I imagine he was just hired to do a job and isn't actually a part of the "Ouya" team that works alongside Julie everyday.

the latest post on their Kickstarter ponders the inclusion of an Ethernet port. ok..

they also make a point to announce that the Hawken guys 'support' Ouya. but all that is, along with the other choice quotes, are a couple of high profile developers just saying "yeah sure it sounds great" and nothing else. Julie is just name-dropping and that doesn't inspire much confidence.

Android can run native code (in this case arm code), programs that use it just cannot run on devices with different cpu architectures. Which will be a non issue in this case as every system will have a tegra 3

^ That'll pretty much happen until the console comes out (and probably even after). Those who are actually interested in stuff like this will probably do research and figure out if the device is or could be good or not, rather than looking to image boards.

If it comes out and gets some steam, the general consensus may change.

This is not fun to talk about anymore with everyone flying off to one extreme or the other.

@_MADK - The Pandora costs $500.
@Falmil - Yeah, it was kinda supposed to be a discussion thread more-so than a IT'S GOING TO WIN or IT'S GOING TO BOMB thread. Nobody was supposed to argue or anything. Droop

I guess the one question in my mind is - suppose I can publish games to Android, how much extra work, aside from designing/implementing a d-pad & buttons input schema, is it going to take to have games that are ready to publish for this thing?

I don't know. Either it'll be able to run APK files natively, or will have an application to convert them to run on the OUYA - neither path is mentioned, as far as I know, though they say it'll be easy.
