Then again, there is this prophecy that has been passed down through generations about the one kickstarter project that'll show that kickstarter is a big fraud, everyone is constantly crossing their fingers everytime there is a new successful project.
That is the big worry, isn't it. But I seriously doubt it will happen in this case. There are just too many high-profile names attached to this project, and the company developing it. These are visible individuals, with a history of working within the game development industry in high-profile positions. If the Ouya turned out to be a scam, their reputations within the video game industry would be ruined.
Game development and publishing are well known for being an insular industry. Everyone in the industry knows everyone else. Trying to pull a con like this, with as much publicity as has been generated, would be career suicide for anyone involved.
It's still entirely possible that the entire effort will fall through. But I seriously doubt it will be because someone ran off with the cash.
