Hey TIGS, what's your favorite game that took (or you at least expect it took) less than a month to make? Mine's probably Don't Shit Your Pants. It's got all the stuff you want in a wham-bam, get-in-get-out type of game: humor, clever puzzles, and a sense of satisfaction when you're done. Gimme some more, dammit.

Personally I clocked the game at 8 hours.

"Best short game" is a bit of a misnomer for the thread. "Best quickly-developed game" would fit it better, I think.
I really liked Matt Thorson's Broken Cave Robot from that LD a while back. The cartography aspect was really fun.

Rara Racer is up there. Also Opera Omnia, if that was made in less than a month (not sure).

Gravity Bone. It would be nice if it was worth a good forty hours.

Good idea. Any chance I can get you guys to expand on what you think made them good?

Typically if a good game was developed that fast, it had a very tight focus and did whatever it was trying to do very well. Also the developer knew exactly what they wanted, and accomplished it well.

Oh god, I totally forgot that Canabalt was a jam game. Yeah that might be the greatest jam game ever created.

how is that the greatest jam game ever made? probably the most popular but it's hardly anything special. basically a less fun version of Dino Run.
some great jam/short compo games (and certainly better than canabalt) enviro-bear 2000 streemerz rescue the beagles under the garden black shades
