No XBOX so I recently got back into the original spelunky  So far, I've perfected a method of stealing from the shop. Be at the block next to the shop keeper, and drop a bomb with A. He runs out and you don't move, you land on his head and he drops his gun. Grab it. Kill him. Run from bomb, take all items. Kill him at every exit, make sure to grab the new gun for more ammo! Only downside is you're screwed if you lose health since bringing a damsel and a gun is difficult. Got to the ice level the first time and died from a bottomless pit  |

I've put countless hours into Spelunky
It was my favorite game when I had my netbook. That and Dwarf Fortress. Now that I can graffix I don't play it hardly ever, but I still have a soft spot for it. Babby's first rouge-like

Two Thousand and... Eight? But that means I've been playing Spelunky for THREE AND A HALF YEARS*.     Also: Downloaded 2 hours ago. Stopped now. Never Passed level 3. Very difficult. Even tutorial killed me, so I didn't know how to play.
...
LUCID EDIT: Not sure how much more intense and interesting things get, but some more interesting "rooms" (such as the snake pits) would be nice. And you know, other general items. Though, uh, really, I'm going to be playing the buggery out of this as it is. Just that, you know, more is more!
Also, more music would be nice. Maybe selectable from the... "menu" (a radio?) ala Beagles?

I finally paid the shortcut man enough to get a tunnel to the rainforest. Now I can save time by dying in the FIRST level I play in a session, rather than the fourth :/ |

I finally paid the shortcut man enough to get a tunnel to the rainforest. Now I can save time by dying in the FIRST level I play in a session, rather than the fourth :/ I usually do fine unless it's a dark level. Try to not kill explodey frogs, and avoid monkeys. It helps. |

the only way i was able to get to the end was by modifying the .gmk to give the spelunker 99 hearts, bombs, and ropes...

I've probably tried at least a thousand times to beat Spelunky, and have only done so once, years ago around attempt number seven-hundred-something. Maybe I should try being less aggressive with shopkeepers for once...

You have to be patient in Spelunky, but you gotta be patient quickly, or else the ghost will come for you...  I should try the ghost-less Spelunky sometime. I feel like that one enemy sucked all the fun out of the game for me when I played it back in the days. |

Now I can save time by dying in the FIRST level I play in a session, rather than the fourthfifth :/ I wonder how many people realize that *beginning* there with your default 4 bombs + 4 ropes is actually more difficult than actually going through the mines and building yourself up... I got one win so far around attempt 800, and am nearing the thousandfold milestone. The game isn't hard to win, it's just so darned EASY TO LOSE. |
