Well hello there. I'm Ravaro. Your typical programmer dude.
I think we all know this, and I've got a new idea on what I want to do.
This will be yet another edit to my previous post, but more detailed, and it shows what exactly I want from you guys.
Okay, you're Ravaro, and you're a programmer. Your experience?Well, here's what I know:
MAIN LANGUAGES:
-C (good ol' C, not C++/C#, just C) Experience: Medium-High (Over 4 years)
-C++ (Yep, that kind of language.) Experience: Medium-High (Over 4 years)
-C# (JAVA AND C++ MIXED TOGETHER? Whoa) Experience: Medium-High (Over 3 years, will be 4 soon)
-Java (Yes, Notch's language) Experience: Low (About 3 months)
-Lua (Been with it ever since the ol' C days) Experience: Medium-High (Over 3 years)
Other Languages:
-ActionScript (if you don't know this, you are sad!) Experience: Low (5 months)
-Python (Not the snake!) Experience: Low (7 months)
-Perl (Not what you find from clams.) Experience: VERY Low (2 months)
Summary: I have a sort of wide knowledge of programming, not to say I'm an expert, but I'm not new to this either.
Okay, so we've seen your programming skills. But, what about your other skills?Well, programming is my strong point, mainly due to my low experience with non grayscale and non 8 bit graphics, and music is... eh. Those are two areas I can't do advanced stuff with, (the music part I'll learn soon enough) but like I said, that's not my forte.
Ok so we know you don't do much in GFX/SFX. What about things you've worked on?
Well, that's where things get complicated. I have a high tendency not to share some of the things I do. (In fact, 80% of the stuff I do is private... Mainly because I never believe it's good enough to release to the public.)
The screenshot I just gave to you is from an old project I once worked on, called "Project RAR". Yeah. It didn't even have a name. But whatever. The game had some pretty advanced stuff going on for it, such as slopes, tilesets, enemy AI, moving around; Your basic platformer stuff.
Let me go on something here: Side scrollers are probably my favorite genre of games. They just are. I'm also quite a retro gamer (mainly of NES/SNES games, such as contra, metroid, super mario bros, donkey kong country, castlevania (not the second one dear god no), and things like that), but I do have SOME variety in modern games. (not really)
And yes. Before you ask, most of the stuff I work on in private ARE sidescrollers. Go figure.
Okay, so you've written 27 pages on video games. So what exactly do you want to do?Ah. Now we're getting into what I want to do.
You see, I want to do something brand new. I don't want to work solo this time. It gets boring pretty quickly, and if ideas are low, then there's a rut. (Not to say I can't work on stuff alone, it's just, this time I don't want to

)
So what I mainly want to do, is start up a brand new project. This project will most likely be 2D, (If it needs to be 3D, then so be it) but I want to do something Metroid/Zelda styled. Give the player a general overview of the story, and then send him off. You won't be told where exactly to go, and there won't just be one thing to do; You'll be free to roam. You'll be able to roam around the Island, free to do whatever. Except: Your main objective is to survive. That's it. Try to keep alive. But... This isn't all you can do. We said survive, not stand around. You'll be free to explore the Island as much as you want, finding caves, looting temples, diving into underwater cities, jumping into volcanoes, tons of stuff to do, only limited by your effort.
Now, that's just a general concept of what I want to do. Once this gets "officially" started, that concept can be changed at will. That's just a general idea to go by.
So... What exactly do I want from anyone here? Mainly help with graphics/music. Like I stated previously, those are my absolute worst aspects. Some testers would also be great, but that's not fully necessary. If you want to assist with coding, then fine by me, as long as you know Lua and LÖVE's framework, that's what I'm running this with.
And, as Udderdude asked me on IRC, I have started an engine. However, I don't want to expand it too much until it's ready to be fully developed. (meaning, more than one person helps.)
Once that's out of the way, I'll expand the engine quite a bit more.
Right now the engine consists of a pink box running and jumping around, colliding with tiles. Yeah not a very good thing yet.
Ok, you've annoyed us with that, so what's the current team, and how big do you expect this team to be?Not that big. I don't need 300 people. HOPEFULLY, the team could at least be 2-3 people. That's what I'd wish. 3-5 is fine, but I'm not sure that many (Hell I don't even know if anyone wants to help) people want to join.
EDIT: Alright, I'm definitely not going to need anymore help with graphics. Already got 2 people helping me with that. A music dev is a good addition, but that's about all I want now.
So here's the current team:
Programming:
-Ravaro
Graphics:
-Cphelbas
-Matt
Music:
-a toaster (nobody)
That's mainly the gist of the team. I can expand that if need be, but I don't think I need to do that.
So... What if I actually want to help?Well, you have a few options to try to get ahold of me.
-Contact me with a message through YouTube. (Username: RavaroZ)
-Contact me via Skype. (Username: evignorealm)
-Contact me via IRC. (Networks: EsperNet (irc.esper.net), or OFTC (irc.oftc.net)
-Contact me via Email (Address:
[email protected])
-Post a message on this topic.
-Send me a private message.
With that being said, I'm done here.
