It was written in a manner that could be indicative troll post (i.e. the grammar and spelling, the confrontational attitude), but it wasn't a troll post.
So this behavior is acceptable? Can I do it?

its the level of punishment if it asks me to replay a lengthy portion of a game and depending on how low it is on the give-a-fuck-about-this-game meter then i stop playing. or in paul eres's shitty retro games case, it is still lives based and will reset you to the beginning of the level so idk what he's talking about. What do you consider to be a "lengthy portion", though? 30 seconds? 2 minutes? Half an hour?! Being able to play a section of a game consistently and without dying is part of the skills a gamer is expected to have. Can't just dodge it and say "Games that require that suck" ..

test edit: it wasnt letting me post. anyway just read the rest of the post that you didnt quote. here ill put it in this post too its the level of punishment if it asks me to replay a lengthy portion of a game and depending on how low it is on the give-a-fuck-about-this-game meter then i stop playing. or in paul eres's shitty retro games case, it is still lives based and will reset you to the beginning of the level so idk what he's talking about.
if i just respawn near where i died (bioshock (i got other bones with this game tho) ) then fine. if i just respawn (a multiplayer shooter with a relatively low respawn timer) then cool. if i literally resurrect on the spot (fable 2) then awesome.
the last 2 examples are kind of neat... they still have the discouraging effect of death: in a mp shooter, the enemies will win. in fable 2 you get a cosmetic scar. but they get rid of active punishment, so it's still somewhat enjoyable.
there's also simply having no fail condition. the game moves on even if you did bad, i think la noire does this at some points... and even lets you skip driving(which i used extensively) and combat if you're doing bad.

So basically any length of time at all is unacceptable? lol. You must hate almost every game ever made, only the really modern ones baby the player by giving instant respawns in single player.

Being able to play a section of a game consistently and without dying is part of the skills a gamer is expected to have. But Eva doesn't like games. Whether it is semi-trolling or not for some reason I can shape an illusion of what Eva wants here. She doesn't want a movie and she doesn't want a game. A movie feels to remote, and a game requires skills and rational engagement. What Eva wants is something in between, a movie-like progression but with a natural feeling of being in control and constant interaction with the environment (not to confuse with heavy-rain, it will be choose a or choose b), but in a way that it only adds to immersion and doesn't stop the flow.

no the length isn't something concrete. understand that i don't think games have to be megaman. in fact games should be the exact opposite of megaman, because megaman isnt fun.

i don't think it makes sense to call old games "retro" games; retro is when you make a new game to seem like an old game. but old games aren't retro, they were state of the art at the time. so vvvvvv and super meat boy are retro, but contra and ikari warriors aren't
and i can't think of very many old games that made you replay a level if you died; most of them respawned you right there if you had enough lives. especially the two-player games (like contra and shadow of the ninja), but even many one-player games too (like gradius and life force)
and even the ones that take you back when you die often have checkpoints, like super mario world and donkey kong country, where you don't do the whole level again, just the level since the last checkpoint

what, are you saying you want to play a game with infinite lives? that's the least challenging thing that i can imagine doing, watching tv is harder than playing a game with infinite lives

why do you want lives, ever, in a video game, unless you're in a stupid arcade

if you don't have lives, that's the same thing as having infinite lives. and you'd want lives so you can play the game. if you don't have any lives, you can't even play the game (how can you play if the player isn't alive?). no lives = you start out dead

Shorter home console games from the past which had lives worked when they didn't have a save function. An ideal situation? No. And today, with the ability to save, more and more games are dumping lives (Nintendo keeps them out of some stubborn tradition).
Though, I personally liked the experience of Super Mario Bros. or Sonic the Hedgehog where there was a delicacy to the progression. Obviously, this is not everyone's cup of tea. But that is why there is such a wide variety of games in the first place; different experiences appeal to different groups of people.
