This forum also doesn't really welcome them back with open arms, many people have been openly harsh/angry about all of those people after their success. This forum went from a very positive place to very negative. Admittedly criticism is better than high fives, but this forum is so bitter way too often (which is encouraged by most mods/high posters).

i've never seen anyone say anything negative about edmund, notch, etc. on these forums. fish yes, but i don't remember a single anti-edmund thread or anti-notch thread

Funny, coming from the biggest minecraft hater on TIGS.

Actually, I'm probably the biggest Minecraft hater in here.
Don't have an opinion about Notch, though.

Yeah, I don't like Minecraft but Notch seems like a nice dude to me. Kinda like Team Meat, I like the duo but don't like their game. It's sad that I'm missing the fun other people are having. Sad

eh? i don't think i've ever said anything negative about minecraft at all. i don't personally play it because i don't enjoy it, but i think it's an excellently designed game. i also was the one who named the game and (if i recall) recommended that he add crafting to it, and notch kindly gave me 500 euros for naming it and a free copy, money which i used to buy the desk i'm typing on right now, so if it didn't exist i would be a little poorer. so where in the world did you get the idea that i hate the game?

a summary about what i have said about minecraft:

- i don't personally enjoy playing it because i prefer to be creative when making games than creative within a game, since playing it takes up some of my creative energy that i'd rather put into game design, but that nonetheless it's very well designed and i can definitely see how people would be into it. if i were a lot younger (12-18) i'd probably love it and play it every day and be addicted to it, but since i'm 33 and work on my own games i feel like it'd be drawing away some of the time that i could put towards working on my own stuff

- i also think it's a great indie success story (outselling starcraft 2 for instance) and that we could learn a lot from it if we want indie games to compete with AAA industry

- i liked the earlier version of it more than newer versions of it, since it was simpler back then and easier to understand. today you need a wiki to really get into it, back then you could just dig and build stuff and have fun. ironically if i remember right most of that complexity is due to my own suggestion that he add a crafting system, so i'm partially to blame for it requiring a wiki

I think the whole crafting bit was really fun, and why it exploded like it did. The red stone contraptions were really interesting.

But I haven't played it since the Halloween update. It just sounds really bloody complicated now which will probably require some ball-ache tutorial before you can actually start playing.

There is an anti-Notch thread, but I don't think there is an anti-edmund one.  Just remembered seeing it a while ago.

I know.  I'm pretty sure most of the people the thread were defending Notch too.

ya, i don't even think it's correct to say *most* people were defending notch there. *everyone* in that thread was defending notch except the guy who started the thread (or at the very least making fun of the guy who started the thread). nobody in that thread agreed with him. so this is sort of a counter-example of it if anything. also: notch posted in that thread and tried to reason with him (unsuccessfully). apparently the guy was upset because notch banned him from irc

I guess I just wanted to say that someone made an attempt (a poor one).  It's annoying when people get pissed off and start hating on people that banned them, even though they were banned for a legitimate reason.  Another example of this is, when I google tigsource, the second thing is a guy who got banned ranting about how tigsource is an evil conspiracy.

yeah i think tigsource's reputation as a cesspool is largely undeserved, most people who say things like that either can't think statistically (they see one bad thread and judge the whole forum by that one thread) or they can't handle a place where wildly different opinions on subjects are tolerated/encouraged (aka a free speech zone)

also i just realized this thread doesn't actually have a topic. what's the topic, anyway? why there were a lot of people on the forum at once at some particular time? that was answered long ago so it feels like there's not much else to talk about regarding it

I think that was my fault. I made a veiled quip implying Derek is to elite to post here anymore, and it sparked a whole new discussion.

I was once banned from a Naruto RP (I was like, 9) for trying to fight a guy who was dead. Basically, he was a zombie, and since he was dead, he could never die, so when I tried to fight him he was pretty much GOD MODO

and then i got banned for complaining, even though the rules say that you can't god mode in rps

If a zombie can't die than why wouldn't everyone just want to be a zombie?

Man kids
Mankids
Manbabies
Manbabies are complaining about elite indie developers when Reddit and Notch's Twitter sent them here to have the most people online ever while playing a Naruto RPG as a zombie.

That's exactly how I feel about the game. I appreciate Minecraft immensely for what it is, but I get about a hundred times more joy from playing Red Faction: Guerilla (a game about mindless destruction). I just can't get into "creative" games - there is an omnipresent voice telling me to spend that time and energy on my own work. But I guess that's why Minecraft is so successful - the majority of people do not make their living being creative. So for them it creates a good balance in their life.
