I don't know much about Charlie Chaplin, but this video alone makes me consider him respectable and admirable: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WibmcsEGLKo

Charlie Chaplin made amazing, beautiful movies. At the very least people should see "Modern Times", it's one of the best movies of all time.
In the respect/admiration dept. someone always points out that he was in the habit of taking child brides: "Chaplin was married 4 times. He was 29 and his first wife was 16 when they married. His second marriage was to 16-year-old Lita Grey, when he was 35. His third and possibly fictional marriage to Paulette Goddard, was rumored to have occurred when he was 47 and she was 28. He married his last wife, Oona O'Neill, daughter of playwright Eugene O'Neill, shortly after Oona turned 18. Chaplin was 54."

Joke reply: Nothing wrong with picking fruit when it's ripe! Honest reply: Well, that's kind of a shame I guess, but nobody's perfect. Diversion reply: Still not as creepy as these fuckers.

I saw modern times recently, and all I remember about the movie is "how to take an underage girl as your wife and get away with it"

because Charlie Chaplain made a movie where he played Hitler?
And also, Hitler cloned the tramp's signature stache which didn't sit well with the man. there's a line you do not cross!

It's a really good film, by the way. You should watch it if you haven't.
