Hello! My name's Nick and I've formed a little game studio with 2 friends of mine, we have worked on our first game basically as a test of skills, to see what we can do and how fast we can learn.

We're almost finished with the game and would like to know what people think about it, you can play it in the browser or download it on this page: http://fluxusstudio.ca/en/home/viking/

Feel free to let us know your thoughts about the game, even constructive criticism is welcome!

Congrats on your first game! Plays well. Smiley

You might want to ask the player to play the tutorial on first run. From the name, I assumed this was a Canabalt clone, and didn't realize the axe's use until I ran into a challenge that needed it.

Levels are way too long. Boring. Nothing interesting happens until level 2. Totally won't replay this for score if that's what I need to repeat to get to the fun/challenging parts.

It's particularly irritating having to keep a mental count of jumps to know when I can float, particularly when the triple jump powerup kills me because my muscle memory still thinks I can float after the second jump. I suggest letting the player float if she's holding the jump button past the apex of any jump, not just the last.

What's the deal with the life counter? Vestigial UI element from an earlier design?

I thought this was pretty good. The animation and gameplay is very smooth and fluid. The artwork is fun, and the concept is creative, unique, and fresh.

Keep up the good work

@Noyb , thanks a lot for the constructive feedback! It helped a lot and you are right about many things, we came to the conclusion that the game has no replay value because it is not rewarding enough, we were thinking about an upgrade system, where even if you die, your score is saved and then transformed into cash, which you can then use to buy upgrades, and try the level again. I'd like to know your thoughts about this idea, and if you have any other idea that could make the replay value higher, it would be great to know!

@Majestic, thank you! We're still working on this game and updating it so if you like where it's going you can always check up on our site for new updates! Thanks for playing!

Not bad, love the music Smiley
I think it should be more responsive, it happens that I'm stuck behind some barrels, trying to jump to proceed, and nothing happens.
Work a little bit on the input making it more "alive", and should be good to go  Toast Right

I also feel that the controls need some tweaking. The first jump seems a bit too short.

I love the axe throwing mechanic and then using that to reach greater heights. I feel that the forced scrolling is maybe a bit too fast for me to think and decide where to throw my axe.

I think this game has some really good elements, but it needs some tweaking so that the player doesn't get too frustrated.

Hi, I tried this the other day and put it away after dying a couple times without getting past the first level.  I hadn't even realised there were levels in it.

I gave it another play today and found out that there's more than one level and a shop with upgrades between them, which adds a lot to the game.

Some kind of indicator that there are levels, and of how far through each level you were would help a lot with keeping people motivated at the start, I personally think the first level should be shorter too (maybe half the length?), letting you get just enough points to be able to afford your first upgrade at the end.

Overall the game looks interesting but it needs plenty of polishing. The double jump mechanics don't work properly, as you can basically fly through the air if you keep pushing space rapidly. Hand Any KeyHuh? I generally don't like double jump mechanics in games, but in this game it seems even more inappropriate, because the main character is a Viking (how do Vikings jump in mid-air??) It would make more sense to me if the player could just do higher jumps. Also the controls are weird - three basic buttons on keyboard (left/right/jump), but you have to shoot using your mouse? It's a very strange scheme to say the least. Also I don't particularly like the graphics style, it's too kitschy. One thing I do like is the main menu, it seems unique and fresh.

Hopefully this helps. Sorry if I sound harsh, I know a lot of effort went into it. Smiley Good luck.
